Virginia Peters Sep 8, 1947 – Apr 5, 2010 Virginia was in a class of her own. Born and raised in Modesto, California, she grew up in her family owned business. Virginia attended UCLA, University of Oregon and graduated from UC Berkeley with a Bachelor's in Sociology during the 'Summer of Love'. She was one of the only members of her graduating class who didn't wear a gas mask while receiving her diploma. Despite being straight laced, Virginia was nothing but fun, bringing joy and laughter to all around her. She then began a 13 year management career with Southwestern Bell that resulted in her begrudging transformation into a Texan for the rest of her life. The greatest joy in her life was being a mother to her daughter, Amanda, Godmother to Staci, Brittany and Riley, 'Fairy' Godmother to Bronson, Avery, Sophie, Townes and Presley and above all a spectacular friend to many. For almost 10 years she took great pleasure in being extremely active in the Lake Travis community and school system, be it coaching Odyssey of the Mind, cheerleading at every softball game or 'stage mother deluxe'. Her first priority in life was being her daughter's unwavering advocate and biggest fan. After a devastating diagnosis of Multiple Myeloma in 2003, Virginia courageously decided to live life on her terms, in the absolute pursuit of joy and discovery. Whether it was wine tasting in Paris and Tuscany, visiting Buddhist temples in both Cambodia and Thailand or spending months at a time wining, dining and shopping 'til she dropped in San Francisco and New York City. Virginia will always be remembered and revered for her generosity to a fault, unending compassion, classy cosmopolitan style, her infectious smile and laugh, razor sharp wit, being a colorful and animated conversationalist, love of strong personalities, being meticulously clean, and finally for her chronic tardiness and closeted truck driver potty mouth. The sudden loss of our best friend will leave a gaping hole in the hearts and lives of those that knew and loved her. Virginia is survived by her daughter, Amanda Christine Peters and her Godchildren, Staci Lea Shultz, Brittany Paige Ziemann and Riley William Amelio. Friends and family would like to thank the unsung heroes at the MD Anderson Myeloma Clinic and the doctors and nurses who cared for her at the Heart Hospital of Austin. A Celebration of Virginia's Life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, April 9th at the Broesche Residence, 10 Cabin Rd, Austin, TX 78746. In lieu of flowers please feel free to make donations to the Virginia Peters Foundation for Myeloma research.
