He grew up in De Leon and after graduating from high school moved to Austin. He married Claudia Smith in 1938; he joined the Army and served honorably in Europe during WWII.
Though they had no children, he and Claudia lived a satisfying life together in Austin until her death in 1993. Wade clerked and delivered mail for the post office for most of his adult life and was well-liked by almost everyone who spent any amount of time near him. A close second to Claudia was Wade’s love of horses. He raised, trained and showed horses and invested many hours in the drill teams for the Travis County Rodeo. As Claudia often said, “What’s on the outside of a horse is good for what’s on the inside of Wade.”
He will be missed by many because of his love of family, his consistently sunny disposition, and his honest and friendly attitude.
Wade is survived by a sister-in-law, Robbie Smith of Victoria, Texas; and five nephews, Reed Smith of Victoria, Jay and Jim Jenkins of Lubbock, and Clay and Jim Wallin of Austin and their families.
The family will receive friends at 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at 10:00 a.m. at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park with Pastor Tracey Beadle of Manchaca United Methodist Church to officiate.
