Walter Wayne “Chip” Wilkins, Jr. was born on April 25, 1946 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He passed away peacefully in Austin, Texas on Tuesday, November 20, 2018, where he lived happily for the last 18 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Billie Wilkins and Walter Wayne Wilkins, Sr. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 48 years, Penny Wilkins and daughters, Tisa Wilkins (Anthony Thurmond) of Portland, Oregon and Taite Eiermann (Davis Eiermann) of Portland, Oregon.
Chip was the third generation in his family to receive a Bachelor of Arts from Texas Tech University. He jokingly kept a picture in his office with the phrase, “Happiness is Lubbock, Texas in the rear view mirror.” He later received his Master’s in Business Administration from West Texas State University, where he met his beloved Penny.
In their first years of marriage, Chip and Penny lived in Toronto, Ontario, where they made some of the greatest friends of their lives and their first daughter was born. Later, they moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, where they lived for 22 years and took advantage of sailing along the windy Gulf Coast.
Chip was an avid reader who could answer almost any historical fact, read every novel by his favorite author, John Grisham, and enjoyed bicycling and hunting. He was charismatic, an animated story teller and had an incredible sense of humor. His favorite quote was, “Living well is the best revenge” and that is what he did.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Austin Pets Alive! in Chip's name.
