Dub was born to parents Seldon and Claudia Wright Polson on October 14,1933, in Big Spring, Texas.
He grew up as the middle child of 3 boys and raised in many towns, due to his family following the booms of the oil patch. He graduated from Central City high school in Oklahoma, where he excelled in sports, especially football. He was playing football for the University of Houston when he was drafted into the Army to serve in the Korean Conflict. When he returned he entered Sul Ross University to finish his degree and it was there that he met Nancy Jean Clift. Dub and Nancy were married on February 11, 1956, and settled in Marfa, where he would begin his football coaching career. Dub was a very successful coach, known for his single-wing offense and won the 1969 6AA district championship.
Dub coached, taught and served on the Marfa ISD School Board and he and Nancy both retired from teaching after long careers in the Marfa School district. They raised 2 sons, Rink and Jon and they’re house was always filled with friends and family. Dub loved Marfa, the place he could call home and raise a family after moving around for so much of his young life. He loved to hunt, fish, tell jokes and pay for everybody’s dinner. He did this to pay forward to all the people who had helped him along the way.
Dub is survived by his wife of 60 years, Nancy; son Rink and daughter-in-law Paige Polson of Loma, Colorado; son, Jon Polson of Austin, Texas; granddaughter, Whitney and her husband John Denham; great-granddaughter Brynn; Grandson, Wyatt Polson; brother, Tommy and sister-in-law Judy Polson; nephew, Mark Polson, niece Mindy Rogers and her husband Lee Rogers.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Seldon and Claudia, his brother Billy Joe and his granddaughter, Hayley Brynn Polson.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 26 2016, at 1:00 PM, at the First Methodist Church, 118 W. Washington Street, Marfa Texas, 79843.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be sent to the W.C. Polson Scholarship Fund at the Marfa National Bank, PO Box S, Marfa, Texas 79843.
