We went to school together and he was absolutely always so kind. I’m truly saddened to hear this, and so late. He will truly be missed a lifetime and I’m sad I didn’t know him better or be able to share his memorial with the lucky ones who did know him well. 


Will has been gone for three years now and the pain of separation has lessened a bit. Today and every day I remember your smile, your laughter,and your love of cats. I wish you were here, but I also know that sometime in the future we'll all be together once again.



I didn't know Will very well. I was his swimmer for about 2 weeks. He had just started calling me from my right name. I would not expect him to do such a thing. We will never forget will he will always be in our hearts. And we will never forget the way he helped us grow emotionaly and how much he made us grow as swimmer's. We all loved him so much and always will.



Will was an outstanding young man and we will miss him. He was wise and mature beyond his 20 years. His individual interest in "his swimmers" set a very high bar for all coaches, everywhere. He was never too busy to mentor my son. Will's personal touch added significantly to Justin's experience with TXLA. Will's "term papers" for swimmers were top-notch and they are only one example of the lengths Will would go for his group. Will's quiet, determined demeanor set a great example for all of those who knew him. Goodbye Will...



We will all miss Will. He was a great friend and teamate. Our team had a meeting after practice yesterday and talked about what a great person he was. Some of us shared great stories that we had of Will. He had a great knowledge of swimming and I believe it was his ultimate glory. My thoughts and prayers go out to Will and his family. Will was such a wonderful person to call a friend.  I have had some of the hardest laughs and some of the most interesting conversations of my life with him.  I will miss his kind heart, his unique perspective, and his ridiculous laugh.    I pray that Will is at peace and that his family finds comfort in knowing that he is remembered and loved by so many.



I dont really know how to put into wods the way that I'm feeling, but it's almost like part of my everyday life has been torn away, and i know that his family must be , for lack of a better word, extremely depressed and sad that he passed away so soon. My best wishes to his whole family, and that they remember for the fun guy that Will really was.



My thoughts and support go out to the Sarosdy family in this very difficult time.      Watching Will qualify for Trials in 2004 will always be one of my favorite and most inspirational swimming moments.  It is only one of a thousand wonderful memories he leaves behind.  From 6 square and Harry Potter to his endless knowledge of swimming, Will was a great friend and teammate. Our family is so saddened by Will's death and we want his family to know that our thoughts are with them.  Will was an inspiring coach to our daughter, Rachel, and meant a great deal to her.  He ignited in her a passion for swimming that I know she will carry with her for the rest of her life.  We are grateful for the time that she had to learn from him.  He will be truly missed.



Will was very welcoming to our family when we were new to Longhorn Aquatics last fall. Margaret was especially fond of him as her coach. Mary enjoyed visiting with Will as a fellow backstroker.  Will's sincere love of swimming was very evident around the pool.  From all of, he will be greatly missed.

Kit, Maggie, and Warner Raulerson extend their deepest sympathies and condolences to the Sarosdy family.    Will was a remarkably passionate athlete and competitor and held himself to extremely high standards of effort.  His drive and desire were unparalleled and it is truly an honor for his teammates and coaches to have trained with Will.    Will further revealed his intense interest in swimming as an outstanding young coach.   He was a true student of the sport; Will incessantly questioned standard doctrine and strove to figure out the answers for himself.   His young athletes were extremely fortunate for their time with Will.   They benefited immeasurably from his knowledge, wisdom, patience, kindness and his emotional largesse.       I worked with Will for nearly four years, as one of his coaches and later as a co-worker.  His espoused and practiced beliefs make me work to be a better person and a better coach.   His memory inspires all he touched.



We were stunned to read of Will's passing in today's Post. We have wonderful memories of Will, being so kind as to hang out with our son Avery Goldman, when he played soccer with Frank. Our hearts go out to all of you.   Wendy, Lee, Lindsay and Avery



I saw the memorial notice for Will this morning, which was our mutual birthday of June 7, 40 years apart. I'm thinking of all of you today as you remember the wonderful things Will did and how loved he was by many people! I still picture him in my 2nd grade class with his beautiful smile! The Sarosdy Family,  Will was one of the nicest people I've ever met. Ever since I knew him when we were kids playing soccer, he only had good things to say about people and could cheer up a whole room with his smile. Will was always so thoughful and kind and could always be counted on to be the moral voice in trying times. I keep him in my prayers at all times and know that God has welcomed him into heaven where he is at peace.



With all this talk about Final Fantasy Advent children and Playstation 3, I thought for sure getting back with my old friend Will was going to be great, to talk about the new. We sure had some good times from teaching me how to play hockey 3 on 3 on rollerblades to the soccer field 11 v 11. Will was not only a great teacher but a great friend when in need. We used to spend hours also playing games and talking about life in general. WIll had a great sense of humor and we often laughed alot. It used to be so much fun even his father would join us downstairs to play army games with Frank. He was always there for him and Will thought he was one of the collest dads in the world personally he told me. I also thought the same thing. His mother and sister were great also and so was there dog prince. I miss Graces jokes like what flower that has a body part and it would be the Tulip (two lip) he would tell that one over and over, when we were kids. His mother was never late to fix us a hot lunch in the house before we got hungry either. They were great times. I am sorry that he is gone, but I know he would want us to remember all the good times that he shared with us.

Dear Mr. & Mrs.Sarosdy,   Will was a very important person in my life. I saw him everday. He would help me when i needed it and congradulate me when i did well. He was the kind of person that you don't understand umtil you get to know them. I never realy knew he had such a funny sense of humor. The one thing i remember is the nickname i got when i did not like being called Taylor. Mothershabobo! It made me laugh once i heard it. I will miss his jokes and dumb laws for each state. But i will never forget how he was so smart and could figure out the hardest riddles so fast. Will was one of my precious and beautiful nephews. It was an honor and a privelege to help Jane and Randy raise Will, Frank and Grace from babies. To be united with the Sarosdy family for all these years has been one of the most loving and meaningful experiences of my life. I think of Will and thank God for having been a part of his life. I miss my dearest Will and pray for God's peace and comfort for all of us who loved him. I cnnot see him or hear his voice but he is ever present in my heart for all time. The angels caught him up and flew him to the place of perfect peace. Will's sorrow has passed and I wish him well in heaven where his new job is to teach young angels to swim. Will was one of the best swimmers I have ever coached and that has nothing to do with any time or record he ever swam in the water.  While a great swimmer, Will was probably one of the greatest people I have ever known.  He has told me and his family has told me that at times he considered me a hero, but I don't know that I have ever told anyone that he was MY hero.  Will had such a great attitude and such a drive to succeed in everything he did that even though I was a lot older and coached him the past 12 years I know I probably learned as much from him as a person as he ever learned from me.  I cried when he called to tell me he qualified for Olympic Trials because I have never known a swimmer who worked harder and deserved it more.    The last time I visited Will back in September he introduced me to his roommate Garrett as his coach and I actually told him to stop calling me coach and just introduce me as his friend.  I miss him terribly but I feel so lucky that I at least had an opportunity to know him and share what everyone who knew him knows.  He was funny, he was smart and he was the best of friends anyone could ever ask for.      My thoughts will always be with him and his family.  He will always be in my heart and in my fondest memories.



Ohh man, so many fun and enjoyable memories with Will. I knew him very well. I remember last summer I made a bet with him that I could beat him in a 50 meter race if he swam it backstroke and me freestyle. Well he just about killed me in that race, there was about a 5 second difference between us. I expected him to rub it in my face when I finished, but that was before I really knew him. Instead he said, "Good job, Wylie, for your age your really fast, maybe next time you can win." Of course I was never able to beat him, but he was never rood about it.   I also remember one morning practice he was there before everyone else and was getting the pool ready, pulling the tarps and setting the clocks and I was the first one that got there and when I walked in and started to help him, he said to me, "Don't the lifeguards get paid to help with the pool, cuz their not doing anything her?" I just laughed and said I'm here so don't worry about it!"  It has been a while now, but I think about him once a day, just wishing I could still see him, listen to his once a week riddles, and his stradegies. He tought me so much, like stretches to do to help me kick better, backstroke stuff, and how to love swimming when I tend to hate it at times. He thought me so much and vise versa only what I thought him probably wasn't as important. God Bless Will and the Family! ~Wylie~



Although I never had the pleasure of knowing Will personally, I knew of him through long-time connections to Texas Swimming and to the Texarkana Sarosdys. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Sarosdy family during this hard time. Will was such an inspiration to everyone that knew him. I do not believe he knew the impact he had on everyone. I only knew him for about a year in a half, but I remember many weird conversations we would have at swim meets. I remember very distinctly this one conversation we had about IPODS last summer. He did not see the reason for them, and decided to just take the head phones from the IPOD that was given to him, and use it in his old, but reliable CD player. He told me how he did not see the reason to take all the music you already have and download it to another place. It seemed quite redundant to him and he did not understand the point. I tried to argue that it makes it easier to have all your music in one place, but Will being Will with his strong opinions and clever persuasion won the arguement. When I talked to him later that month at some other swim meet, he told me that the IPOD was still in its package, however the IPOD head phones were in his ears connected to his CD player. It was those moments that made me smile the most. Will was also an inspiring coach, and my little sister loved to swim for him. All of the kids in his group loved going to practice, and just loved him in general. He instilled this desire to swim and give 110% all the time that I did not know was possible in kids that age. I am deeply saddened in learning of Will's death. I last saw Will at the Longhorn Invitational a couple of weekends ago and watched him interact with his athletes. Will was a great coach. Although he didn't teach my group, we always had fun whenever he substituted for our coaches. He taught us strokes in details and he encouraged us to try our best.    I remember one day I was late. My group started to leave the pool when I got there. Seeing this, Will allowed me to practice along with his group. He assigned drills and gave instructions to me specificlly. I felt like I was benefited from being late.    Thank you Will for what you gave and contributed to TXLA! We'll never forget you.

My favorite memory of will was the way we handled the lane lines.  Sure randy would be pissed off if we didnt do it efficently enought, but will would blow his top.  One day he showed me a diagram of how we should change the pool.  He said he worked 4 class periods on it and this was his 3rd copy. Dear Sarosdy family,      I am Annie Shedlosky, I am 10 years old and I swim for Longhorn Aquatics. I remember when I first met Will.  He made a joke about my swim cap which was from my cousins' swim team in Pennsylvania.  It always struck me in a way that I will always remember how Will was so welcoming in his heart to everyone.  It was as if he had a special place for everybody no matter who they were.  Over the time that I had Will as a coach, we became such close friends.  He would always bring a folded piece of paper with silly laws, jokes,and riddles, that always made the team smile, even Will.  I will always miss that rare smile of his.      I will never forget how he gave me my TAGS medal.  After practice one night, he took out his wallet and gave me a folded package with a medal in it that had my name on it.  He had been carrying it with him all week just for me!      Another memory I will never forget was how he always encouraged me to keep on swimming no matter what. I am so glad that I was able to get to know Will so well in such a short time. I'm going to miss the telephone calls that I used to get from him where he'd ask me some random question that was on his mind. He is the most genuine and loving person I have ever know. I will miss hearing him complain about the lack of good new Simpsons episodes, and I will miss the ridiculously indepth discussions that we had about the most trivial things. Will was always the kind of guy who would make a joke of anything he could make really funny. He was a great man, who helped me to find myself through swimming. he always told me what to do to improve my strokes, and it always helped. I will miss him.



I will never forget Will's attention to detail and awareness he had in the water, and in life.  When he spoke to you, it was always from the heart and honest, and that has become a rarity these days.  I will keep Will and the Sarosdy family in my prayers.

I am very sorry for the Sarosdy family's loss. Will was an amazing and inspiring individual. I really enjoyed the time I spent talking to him about his philosophies on swimming, politics, history, and life in general. He was a man of strong opinions and well-established moral values. I will miss his quiet sense of humor and even his constant complaints about the poor work-ethic of the Circle C lifeguards. Will always believed in giving 100 percent effort on whatever one was doing. He felt strongly that when people make commitments they should hold to them and not try to find an easy way out. I have so much respect for his beliefs and I will miss him very much.

What can I say about this remarkable individual?  During my time at Circle C, I remember Will as the guy would come up and stand in front of me and either crack a joke or wait for me to tell one.  Lucky for me, hed laugh whether the joke was good or not.  Will was the type of person everyone wanted to be around.  He created a positive, fun and enjoyable environment wherever he was.  He would also walk up to people and compliment them out of the blue.  His ability to give, and make people feel good was unforgettable. I was blessed to know Will during our time together at UT, and as countless others have already expressed, Will was a special part of my life.  He was compassionate, honest, dedicated beyond belief, and simply a joy to be around.  His wit and dry sense of humor were always refreshing, as if he knew you needed him to brighten your day, which he always did.      One of my foundest memories of Will was on a trip his freshman year.  While on the bus I overheard him arguing with a teammate of ours about what time I had gone in some arbitrary event during a meet many years before.  Will was absolutely convinced he was right, and it turned out that he was.  I felt humbled and somewhat proud that Will knew my times from 5 or 6 years prior, when soon after he started rattling off times for everyone on the bus, as well as the better part USA Swimming.  All I could do was smile and laugh to myself, as I would come to learn that this was just one of Will's many unique gifts.    I am sad to know Will is gone, and even more sad to know that the only time I'll see him smile again is in the memories we made together.  We are all bound together by the countless times and ways that Will touched our lives, and I for one am eternally greatful to have known him.  My thoughts and prayers are with the Sarosdy family, and I hope that through all of us lucky enough to have known Will, that they find peace and comfort in knowing how much we all loved Will.



Dear Will,    It was obvious to me from the beginning that you were a sincere and caring person.  You accepted the role of coach, mentor, and friend, and took it to the next level.  You changed Madison's attitude, especially about swimming.  In the 4 years she'd been swimming with Circle C, now TXLA, she'd drag her feet when gathering her things for practice.  It wasn't until you came along that her spirit changed.  She  looked forward to your practice, not willing to miss your good humor, your jokes and silly laws, but most importantly, your presence.  She saw the good in you, not only as a person, but as a faithful friend.  A coach who was willing to take her swimming and "kick it up a notch", which you did.  You took the time to work on technique, the take off, and the  finish. You made it your personal mission to improve each swimmer in their own way. You had a special "aura" or passion for swimming and your swimmers felt it.      I'm thankful that I had the courage to thank you personally for my daughter's improvements.  I was sincere when I told you "you were GOD SENT".  In Madison's years of swimming, no one has truly taken the time, like you did.    I'm thankful that Madison had the strength to hug you that day after her last practice with TXLA.  I'm sure that not realizing it at the time, you rightfully needed that hug.  I'm thankful that you took the time to personally say your goodbyes to Madison and myself.  I will always remember our conversation.  Thank you for encouraging Madison to always put school first.  It didn't matter what pool she was swimming in or what team she was swimming for;  what really mattered was that she kept swimming.  I know in my heart that Madison will always cherish the time you spent with her and her teammates at the  2/06 STAGS meet in Corpus Christi, TX.  You sat with them on the floor, in front of the bathrooms (because there was no room anywhere else), wearing her homemade ski hat, conversing like a genuine friend.  You are a mentor she will never forget.      As a parent, I'm always looking for good people/role models for my children to be around.  I can't thank you enough for being that special person who not only touched my daughter's life, but everyone else's around you.    On our last conversation, you mentioned you wanted to go back to school to be a teacher.  Well, you certainly accomplished THAT goal.  With what little time you had with us, you taught us about LIFE in your own funny way.  You specifically taught my daughter about TRUE FRIENDSHIP, LOVE, LAUGHTER, CARING, and DEDICATION.  You've taught Madison to have goals.  Not only will she be swimming for herself, but she'll be swimming for you, taking those techniques that you worked on, to heart, because she knows that is what you would want.    You're still teaching us grownups about FAMILY and LOVE.  You've made us realize the constant meaning of life: THE APPRECIATION FOR OUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS.    You've brought the family of USA swimmers so much closer.             We miss you dearly!    To the Family of Will:      Thank you for sharing your blessed child with us. Dear Jane, Randy, Frank and Grace,    We are so sorry to hear of your great loss. While I did not know Will personally it was very obvious watching Will on deck that he was a devoted, caring, and committed young coach.  Will positively touched the lives of so many of the swimmers that he coached and he will be truly missed.         Be a hero.  If you have given everything you can to prepare, then you are a hero when you step up on the blocks. Sarosdy family,         I am so sorry for your loss.  Will was a great friend, wonderful coach, and an inspiration to me and all swimmers he knew and coached.  I remember the meet when he dyed his whole arm red and kicked butt in backstroke...one of my favorite memories of him.  Another memory of Will is from last year...he always had this uncanny ability to remember birthdays, and I got a message from him on mine.  He was such a caring and thoughful friend, and I can tell from this guestbook I'm not the only one know knows this. Will was one of my coaches. He was a very caring and dedicated coach. I will miss him very much. He has helped me improve my swimming and given me confidence in my meets. Will would always have time to stop and talk with you, about swimming, jokes, riddles or whatever. He cared so much about his swimmers, and we will miss him.

I only knew Will for one summer, but I knew who he was before I even met him.  I trained with the University of Texas Swim Team and all the guys on the team reveled in telling stories about Will.  I guess that's what I remember the most, how people's faces would light up when they told a story about some joke that Will told.  When I met Will I was impressed by his maturity, quiet demeanor and intelligence.  The whole family will be in my prayers.    My condolences,    David Cromwell



To the Sarosdy family,     Our daughter, Qiaoyi Wang, was a student of Will's at UT Longhorn swim team. We are very sorry for your loss of Will. Qiaoyi told us Will was a good coach and a good friend. We understand your feeling and wish you go through this difficult time.



I missed swimming with Will by just one year, but got to know him well while tutoring him in chemistry.      This subject, as presented in introductory college classes, is seemingly dull and uncreative-a science that is taught by-the-book.  As we worked through Wills homework problems, he would often seem bewildered by the concepts and calculations-he would tell me that he did not understand.  I would, then, attempt to explain the chemistry to him the way I had been taught-the way that my professors had taught me-by-the-book.   Will would remain dissatisfied.  Even after my attempts to rearticulate the concepts or to change the wording or the sequence of my explanations while staying within the limited boundaries of my own understanding, Will would tell me that he didnt understand. I began to suppose that Wills gifts were in areas other than math and science. Perhaps, I thought, he was not a science person   But then, Will would tell me how HE thought of the chemistry. So often, Will so eloquently explained a concept that just minutes before, he and I had thought completely eluded him. It never had. Will simply didnt think like dispassionate professors or introductory textbooks!  His considerations of mundane homework problems were so thoughtful, so introspective, so refreshing, and so creative.  Perhaps I was not the tutor at all.      He was superbly original and remarkably creative. He was passionate and he was considerate.  I am among many who will always remember Will for not living by-the-book.



Dear Sarosdy family,     We are TXLA parents whose children benefited greatly from their too-brief time with Will, and we join you in mourning his premature departure from this life. Though we have never met, please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you.     We knew Will through watching his influence on our children, and on that basis we feel certain that he was a rare gem of a man.     First, our children tell us that Will was a great teacher of swimming techniquesa teacher who taught the inner game of swimming from an experts perspective, and who helped them improve their stroke fundamentals in tangible ways.     Second, our children found Will genuinely inspiring, because he forthrightly encouraged them to love excellence and to pursue it with grit and gusto. When practices seemed too grueling, or the time commitments of swimming too demanding, Will would be the one to remind us that swimming is the finest of all sports, and worth the effort.    But most importantly, our children saw Will as more than a coach, because he reached out to them in an engaging, human wayhelping them not only to compete, but also to cope with inevitable setbacks and disappointments along the way. Our whole family has been enriched by recounted samples of Wills dry, sardonic humor.     Many people set out to make a difference with their lives, but Will actually pulled it off. My son Andrew recognized this when he recently told his mom, I know Will may not be coaching much longer. But I want to stay in his group just as long as I can, because--as I see it--every week with Will is a gift. How very true.    A moment frozen in time: I remember watching Will close a hard practice session at Circle C by jumping in the pool and inviting the members of his group to join him in a quick game of Sharks and Minnows. I recall thinking at the time that he had a rare gift for knowing when to push people hard, and when to make room for moments of pure, child-like joy and exuberance. If thats not genius, what is?    Thank you sharing Will with us. We pray that God will comfort you with His peace, which truly passes understanding. Will - what can we say, our hearts are broken.  Last evening we came to say goodbye to you and today we  celebrate your life - there is much to celebrate!    You meant a lot to many children and they all love you, including Naomi.  You have encouraged our children, inspired them to higher goals and enriched their swimming experience.  You have brightened their day on chilly mornings when you shared the "fun facts" you took the time to find on-line.  You have participated in their victories and comforted them in their defeats.  They know your love for them.  You earned their respect and admiration by your willingness to go the extra mile - and more.  You are without doubt the BEST coach Naomi has ever had!  Will, you made a difference!  That difference is now your legacy and will be remembered long after the more famous names have faded.    Kurt and I appreciated you as our daughter's coach, but now we realize there was so much more to you, and we wish we'd known you better.  We will miss your quiet, sweet persona, your humour, your blazing red hair, the stoicism that hid your tender heart, your diligence and skill, your ability to reach our children.  We are proud to say we knew you and hope you considered us friends as we consider you.    Our prayer is that you are at peace in paradise, free and full of joy in the presence of the Lord. I was so sad when I heard Will died.  He was the best dry land coach ever!  I will miss him.

I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to the Sarosdy Family.  I was fortunate enough to enter the University of Texas with Will as a classmate.  He was the type of person that gave everything he had and never took a thing from anybody.    If I could share one fond memory of my encounters with Will, it would be our yearly competition to see which high school state meet was faster; Texas or Ohio.  His love for the sport, and more importantly those associated with it will always old a special place in our hearts.  I will miss him dearly.    T. Though I only new Will a short time, he made a lasting impression. He was an fine young man and he will be greatly missed by friends, swimmers and coaches alike. My deepest sympathy goes out to you and your family during these tough times.



We will miss Will at TXLA.  Our daughter Leah was coached by Will earlier this year and she truly enjoyed each and every practice. Will was a great coach and friend to all of us in the prenational group at longhorn aquatics.  At practice, he would always do all that he could to help us not only improve our swimming, but have fun.  He loved to read us jokes or funny laws that he had looked up.  When I heard that he had died I was stunned, I couldnt believe that he was gone, that he would no longer be there to talk to us and have fun with us. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Sarosdy Family during what must be a very difficult time. We met Will when you all first moved to Austin and joined Texas Gold Swimming. Since then, we have followed Will's swimming career: through his Senior year at Westlake (when our son was a freshman on the same team),as a member of  the Circle C Swim team ,through  his time as a member of the UT Men's team and then as a coach with Longhorn Aquatics. His maturity, sensitivity and thoughtfulness were always evident and his love for the sport of swimming inspired others. Even though my daughter has only been with Longhorn Aquatics for about a year and a half , it is clear what a positive influence Will had on those he coached and his peers.

Will,     I miss you so much.  You really were different in such a beautiful way; that's what made us all smile.  I know when you came over to talk to my dad, he loved and respected so much your desire to know what he knew about law, and he could have talked to you for hours. And I wish I could have told you that even though I haven't seen you in a while, I have always thought of you as kind of a brother to me. Will, when I used to talk with you, I know everything you would say was the absolute truth, straight from your heart.  And so I felt I could talk to you straight from my heart.  You care so much.
