

He was born in Sardis, MS to John Lloyd and Leona Drake Cleland. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and two sisters.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Bobbie Ruth Cleland; his daughter, Tina Marie Stephens and her husband, Joel of Georgetown, TX; his daughter, Tami Renea Carruthers and her husband, Dave of Austin, TX; one grandson, Travis William Stephens of Georgetown; two sisters, Jane Cook of Southaven, MS and Ruth Jackson of Sardis, MS; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dr. Cleland graduated medical school at Jefferson in Philadelphia, PA in 1955. He entered the Air Force and retired with 30 years of service in 1978. He then moved to Austin, TX where he joined the staff at the University of Texas Hospital as their internal medicine consultant for 12 years. After retiring from UT, he worked with the Texas Rehabilitation Commission for 10 years. A very devoted physician, Dr. Cleland was dearly loved by all of his patients.
Bill was a man of great faith in God having been raised in a Christian home, he read his bible daily. He demonstrated his faith by selfless acts of love, charity and benevolence for his family and all who were blessed to know him.
50 years of memories with this dear man will be everlasting. We will always feel your presence etched in our minds forever. Your guidance will carry us until we meet again.
In accordance with his wishes, private family services were held in Austin.
