William Douglas "Doug" Dohmann, born December 23, 1944 in Weesatche, Goliad County, Texas and passed away on July 28, 2014 in Austin, Texas following a brief illness. Doug graduated Cum Laude from Victoria high school. He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Dohmann, mother, Lizzie Dohmann, and brother, Donnie Dohmann. Doug is survived by Cornelia "Sam" Arhelger of Bastrop and son William "Doug" Dohmann II of Austin, his sisters Linda, Nell, Teresa, Jada and brother, Ronnie Dohmann, and several nephews and nieces, and great nephew, Dustin Johnson, with whom he formed a special bond.
A talented, gifted, musician and singer, who loved the "Old Country" music. Doug was not only accomplished on a lead guitar, but on a fiddle as well. Throughout life Doug was always willing to help friends and family. He worked in numerous ventures over the years, mainly in vending businesses, including his own coffee company.
Doug was one who would take on tasks like repairing something he had never done before, but always managed to get things fixed.
He was an avid collector of stamps and coins. He enjoyed playing music with his friends. He played lead guitar, fiddle and sang with several bands throughout Texas. He most assuredly would have made the big time; however he chose to help support his family after his father had passed away in 1970. He passed the musical talent to his son, Doug, of whom he was very proud, also a lead guitar player and an accomplished songwriter. Often "Big" Doug and "Little" Doug would pair up, both playing lead guitar, matching note for note.
During the 2011 Bastrop fire, Doug and Sam lost their house and all their possessions. Close musician friends thought so highly of him, they pitched in and surprised him with another Gretch guitar, as close as they could get to his original Gretch.
After the wildfires they bounced back and had been successful at rebuilding their lives. He loved working around his and Sam's property, doing a lot of landscape work.
He has gone on to where he will once again play music with some of the great musicians who have gone on ahead.
