

A gathering to celebrate the life of William G. (Jack) Hendrick will be held at Weed Corley-Fish Funeral Home on Thursday, September 14, 2006 at 2:00 oclock in the afternoon. Jack passed away on Saturday morning, September 9, in Austin, Texas from complications associated with cancer. Jack was born in Roanoke, Virginia on August 9, 1935 to Gilbert Hurt Hendrick and Ferol Marie Drabble Hendrick. After serving in the United States Air Force, Jack received his BS degree in Physics from Roanoke College in 1963. Jack furthered his education by earning his MS in Health Physics from the University of Tennessee at Oak Ridge National Laboratory while earning an Atomic Energy Commission Fellowship and graduating with honors including election to Phi Beta Kappa, Sigma Phi and Sigma Pi Sigma. Jack married Marie Hurley Hendrick of Salem, Virginia on June 6, 1959. They had two children, their daughter Cynthia Marie Hendrick and their son William Luther Hendrick. Jack is survived by his wife, his kids, and 9 grandchildren. Jack loved his kids and supported their activities including coaching many baseball teams in the Austin area through the years. The life lessons he taught his kids and grandchildren will be remembered for generations to come. After graduation from the University of Tennessee, Jack accepted the post of Chief Health Physicist at the Space Radiation Effects Laboratory in Virginia. He then served as Director of Environmental and Technical Services of Texas Nuclear Corporation in Austin, Texas until 1991. He then established Radiation Technologies Incorporated in Austin, Texas and served as President and Chief Executive Officer until his passing. Jack is acknowledged as one of the nations leading authorities in the safe use of radioactive materials. He served on five ANSI committees in his area of expertise. Also, he has been a consultant to the Food and Drug Administration, US Department of Transportation, US Nuclear Regulatory Committee, and International Atomic Energy Commission. Jack authored more than twenty publications for peer review during his career. In 1982, Jack was selected by Texas Governor Bill Clements to serve as a member of the Texas Radiation Advisory Board. This blue-ribbon panel recommended the State policies relative to the safe use and disposal of radioactive material. In 1984, Jack was elected to the Chairman of the Texas Radiation Advisory Board and served in that capacity until 1990. Jack continued to serve as a TRAB member until 1996. Participants in Jacks memorial service are encouraged to share stories of their experience and memories. The family is hosting a gathering at a local restaurant following the service.
