

Shortly after Bill was born the family moved to Amarillo, Texas where he grew up. After graduating from Amarillo High Bill joined the Air Force in 1951and while attending Technical School in Canyon, Texas he met Joan Buchanan on a blind date. Bill and Joan dated for about two months and while Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer played on the radio, (he waited for a romantic song but one never aired and he couldn’t wait any longer) he popped the question. Bill and Joan eloped to Clovis, New Mexico and married on December 1, 1951.
Soon after marrying they were stationed in Shreveport, LA where their children Connie and Mark were born. From there the family was stationed in Oahu, HI, Lubbock, TX, San Antonio, TX, Rantoul, IL and finally in 1968, Austin, TX. Bill retired from the Air Force in 1972 and lived in Austin until moving to an Assisted Living community in Waco, TX in 2023.
It was important to Bill that he earn his college degree, and he worked at it both while still in the Air Force and after retiring. He attended Texas Tech, UT Austin and graduated from Park College with a BS in Business Management. Bill then worked for and retired from the State of Texas and the University of Texas at Austin.
After retiring Bill joined the Oak Hill Rotary Club and was active for many years serving as President and Assistant Governor and was awarded the Rotarian of the Year and Rotary District 5870 Roll of Fame in 2000.Bill was also an active member of the Woodworking Club of Austin and a member of Mensa.
Bill was a loving grandfather and great-grandfather to Zach, Matthew, Mason and Kaley.
Bill was a unique person; he could fix and build just about anything and this ran the gamut from doing a brake job on some of the family’s old cars to building a huge water fountain next to their backyard pool. He could paint, write poetry and loved wine, opera, classical music and Willie Nelson.
Bill is survived by daughter Connie Rexroat and Bill, son Mark Morgan and Sheryl, grandsons Zach Matthews, Matthew and Mason Morgan, and great-granddaughter Kaley Hicks and Hunter, great-great-grandchildren Harrison and Hudson Hicks. Bill is preceded in death by his loving wife Joan.
