

William P. Staehely, age 78, died on Wednesday, April 4, 2012, due to complications of a hemorrhagic stroke suffered in 2008. Born in Austin on June 21, 1933, the youngest of eight children of Walter Staehely and Alberta Martin Staehely, he was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Sophie Cooke, Mary Lucille Riley, Walter Staehely, Jr., Alfred Staehely, Carolyn Grove, Anne Sundstrom and Martin Staehely.
Bill attended grade school at Newman Catholic School and then Austin public schools, graduating from Austin High in 1952 and The University of Texas in 1956 with a degree in Business Administration. He retired from Elgin-Butler Brick Company where he was employed for most of his adult life.
He was a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity at UT. He also belonged to The Bachelors Club of Austin, Young Men's Business League, and the Headliners Club.
He is survived by his niece and principal caregiver, Laura Judd of Austin and her husband Patrick, as well as many other nieces and nephews in Austin, Houston, Dallas, and California. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Peggy Staehely, and by a host of close friends whose devotion and loyalty helped sustain him in his last years.
He will be remembered for his unfailing compassion for his family and friends as well as for his good humor and gentlemanly ways.
A memorial service will be held in celebration of his life on Saturday, April 14, at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar Blvd., the Reverend Anne Hoey officiating.
