William Wiseman Wells Sunrise August 11, 1938 Sunset November 28, 2007 "Just when the caterpillar thought the World was over, it became a Butterfly." Bill was born in Rosenburg Texas and lived most of his life in Texas. He was preceded in death by his mother Mary Alice Stubblefield Robertson and stepfather Earl Wells Jr. Bill is survived by his wife Maria Xenia Zevelechi Wells, daughters Cynthia Wells and Sandra Wells Kugler and her husband Karras; grandchildren Marina Ann, Ella Lorraine, and William Greigh; and half-brother Earl Wells Ill. During a 30 year career spent working for the Texas Legislature, Bill used his training as a lawyer in many capacities but was proudest of the accomplishments of the Texas Sunset Commission which he helped create and then served as the director for 17 years until his retirement in 1994. He spent a great deal of time and effort repairing government programs so they would not need to be fixed in a crisis and enjoyed thinking through these problems with the capable staff of the Sunset Commission. Bill enjoyed traveling with his wife to Greece and other countries. Most of all he enjoyed being able to share time with his children and grandchildren. His grandchildren in particular gave him a heart full of love. Hopefully when they see a butterfly they will think of him. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Dr. Jaffer A. Ajani and the staff at MD Anderson, Dr. John D. Doty and the staff of the Southwest Regional Cancer Center, and Dr. Shannon D. Cox of the Austin Cancer Center. A memorial service will be held in the State Capitol Senate Chamber on Saturday, January 19, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. Obituary and guestbook online at wcfish.com
