It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of William Kenneth Wickham, Jr. on May 20, 2025, at the age of 82. Ken was born on October 4, 1942, in Kilgore, Texas, to William Kenneth Wickham, Sr. and Nannette Crane Wickham. He grew up in Kilgore, where he graduated from Kilgore High School and was an active member of the band, playing the string bass. He became so proficient, he received a scholarship to attend the prestigious Interlochen Center for the Arts in Michigan with his dear friend Royce Lumpkin.
Ken attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, where he pursued a degree in electrical engineering and met the love of his life, Beverly. After graduation, Ken returned to Texas, initially contributing to the family meat-packing business. But his passion for engineering led him to Texas Instruments where he embarked on a successful career that would span several decades. He continued his education at night, earning his Master's degree and PhD in electrical engineering from SMU.
Ken was a true Renaissance man—his talents and passions extended far beyond the workplace. He built homes, restored classic cars, and was a leader in the emerging field of computer chip design and manufacturing. He performed classical music with the Richardson Symphony. He excelled with woodworking, utilizing that skill to make wooden toys for children in Central America. His passions led him to earning his pilot's license and restoring his dream car, a 1957 Mercedes 300SL Gullwing.
Ken was also deeply committed to his community. He served as President of the local school board, Elder at his church, and was a leader in the Boy Scouts of America. He was a dedicated volunteer in prison ministry and lived his life in service to others.
A man of unwavering faith, Ken is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Beverly; as well as his sons, Ken III (Tami) and Chris (Kami); nephew Greg Stockton (children Sarah and Nick); and his grandchildren, James, Evan, Clay, and Nate. He leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and service, and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Service Dogs Inc. of Dripping Springs or Westlake Hills Presbyterian Church. A celebration of his life will occur this October in Austin.
