Willis Ludwig Flamm “Will” was born in Dixon, Illinois, to Harold and Mary Flamm. He was welcomed into the family by three older sisters. The family lived in Illinois and Indiana before moving to Dalhart, Texas, where he graduated from high school. Will was named after his grandfather, who was a pioneer doctor in Amarillo, Texas. After high school he worked for the U.S. Government Bureau of Mines. Before joining the U.S. Army, he received training in computer technology in the early years of computers. After his discharge from the army he went to work for Control Data Corporation. Later CDC moved him to Austin, Texas, where he worked until his retirement. Will came out of retirement to work another seven years for Dell Computers.
