

Zelma L. Hunt, of Austin, died on Friday, January 9, 2015. Mrs. Hunt was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, on March 2, 1934. She accepted Christ at an early age, and was an active member of Austin Baptist Church.
Mrs. Hunt was an educator, mother, wife, and friend. She was a graduate of Prairie View A & M University with a Bachelor's of Science in Home Economics. She started her teaching career at J. J. Rhodes High School in Childress, TX, and finished her career at Austin High School, after having taught for over thirty years. To enhance her career she went back to school, and obtained a Master’s in Education. While teaching at Austin High School, Mrs. Hunt took over the food service program where her students prepared food for faculty members and staff once a week. The program was successful in helping students learn meal planning, how to cook for large groups, and the fundamentals of restaurant management.
Mrs. Hunt is survived by her husband, Franklin D. Hunt, Sr., sons Kurt A. Hunt, Franklin D. Hunt Jr. and daughter-in-law Donna M. Hunt, Stanley K. Hunt and daughter- in-law Diane A. Hunt, grandsons B. Kyle Hunt and Andrew J. Hunt; sisters Wyvonne Johnson, Doris Buckley, Marylyn Wilson, and brother John C. Johnson.
Visitation is scheduled for Friday, January 16, from 6 – 8 PM at the Cook Walden Funeral Home, 6100 N. Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX 78752.
The funeral service will take place on Saturday, January 17, at 10:00 AM also at Cook Walden Funeral Home.
