Jimmy was born on December 20th, 1941 in Ottawa, Ontario, the 13th of 16 children predeceased by his parents Hugh James Cameron, Annie Perry and many siblings. Jimmy is survived by his two younger siblings, Gwen Leon and Teddy Cameron. Jimmy will forever be lovingly remembered by his wife of 61 years, Dianna Cameron (Maisonneuve), and his four daughters, Darlene (Mike), Veronica, Christine (Roger), and Cynthia (Jason). He is predeceased by and now joined in Heaven with his son Hugh (Jimmy) Cameron who passed away in March of 2021. Jimmy was an incredible grandfather to his twelve grandchildren; Sarah (Dave), Joey, Matthew (Cassandra), Christian, Kayla (Michel), Samantha (Patrick), Victoria (Alex), Heather (Ryan), Tyler (Jamie), Lilian, Jacob (Gabrielle), and Mackenzie. He will be loved and cherished by his 12 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, co-workers and friends.
Jimmy is remembered by all who knew him as an incredibly hard-working, honest man, who cherished his family above all else. He was a man of deep faith and a dedicated member of St.Marks parish and the Knights of Columbus.
Jimmy was a well-respected tower-crane operator and accomplished construction worker, dedicating many years of long-hours both at the shop and in the yard, taking part in building many monumental buildings across Ottawa. He spent many years working for Right Forming Limited in Ottawa, until his well-celebrated retirement at the age of 70. His co-workers remember him as a man who could run any machine, build anything, and fix anything a highly respected worker who shared his teachings with those around him.
When he was not at work, he was working at home, building and fixing whatever needed to be done. Together with his family and friends, Jimmy built several homes, home additions, and even the family’s homestead cottage in Ladysmith, Quebec, where many happy hours with loved ones were spent, eating, swimming and telling stories around the campfire together.
Despite all of these accomplishments, if anyone were to ask Jimmy where his greatest pride lay, he would have without a doubt answered with two words: his family. Jimmy’s love for his wife Dianna was obvious every day of their lives. She was his greatest joy, and his love for her was unwavering and deeply devoted every day of their over 60 years together. Jimmy was an incredible father, and cherished the moments he shared with his five children, teaching them, protecting and providing for them. As the years went on, Jimmy could be found cheering on the sidelines of many a hockey or soccer game, or standing tall next to his grandchildren during countless graduations, marriages, and baptisms. Sunday afternoons were dedicated to time visiting family and friends.
Jimmy was a true, salt-of the earth, humble man with a heart of gold. He will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
