The world is a sadder place by the loss of a good person. My mom wasn’t always a popular person because she always spoke her mind. She told you how things really were whether you wanted to hear it or not. That did not make her a bad person, she just didn’t live her life with pretenses. She was a good soul and would help anyone in need to her utmost capability. Mom was a role model to me. She taught me how to be strong and independent, instilled the importance of family and loyalty, and taught me the importance of being fair.
I struggled to come up with a single memory to share, there is a lifetime of memories that keep flooding back. I remember as a child, even though she worked a full-time job and took care of the household chores, she still always made special time for her children. Our favorite place was the park where often you would find mom on the swings right alongside us. Mom would also take us to the Marina or the beach, she loved the water which led to her love of boating. There were so many weekends we spent as a family at Fire Island on the boat. It was mom’s special place, the place she could relax and unwind. She was the hostess with the moistest on the docks. She always had the biggest spread of snacks and beverages set out for us and anyone else that came along to chat. As I grew older and started a family of my own, the summer tradition continued. Mom and dad would pick up my kids on Friday and head over to Fire Island. My kids grew up on the beach and still enjoy being by the water, a love they got from their grandparents.
Mom loved her family: her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren meant the world to her. She found joy in watching the young ones play. She loved the hugs and the kisses she received. The innocence of a child made up for all the overwhelming pressures of life.
Anne Kruger: my mom, my mentor, my friend. She will be forever missed and never forgotten.

As I sit here and quierly mourn the loss of my life partner I look around the house that we shared  for the past 20 years, everything I see is a reminder of Anne and her ability to tastfully decorate our home and our lives and make a comfortable place to spend our time. There is not one place in this house that is devoid of memories she created. It is bittersweet for me because it is proof that, in a way, she is still with me but also it rips at my heart that I am not able to hold her hand or give her a hug or a kiss. Anne went thru a very painful time this past year, not only physical pain but mental anguish caused by the fact that she beat the first round of breast cancer with its lenghty treatments of radiation and chemotherapy and was finally pronounced clear, only to have the heart breaking news that the cancer had reemerged in her bones two years later. She was brave and struggled through without a lot fanfare and stubbornly pushed forward in an attempt to live a semblance of a normal life for both of us. As time goes by and the physical evidence of the reminders of her presence slowly disappear she will remain loud and clear in my heart. I am thankful for the 62 years we had together and i will miss her terribly, her passing has left a big hole in my heart but my love for her will never die.

My grandmother was my favorite person in the world. My best friend. The greatest memories I have of her are surrounding holidays in Oakdale, on the boat at Atlantique, and our weekly phone conversations once she and grandpa moved to FL. She was a force to be reckoned with. A perfectionist. The hardest working but also the most giving, hilarious & playful. She would have given the shirt off her back to help anyone in need… and a sandwich with macaroni salad on the side for good measure! She loved playing cards, and somehow always won! She had a competitive nature all of her grandchildren admired & emulated. I am who I am today because of her. This world will not be the same without her & I will miss her dearly.

When I went to the University of Florida, I got to see grandma and grandpa a lot more, especially over the holidays. This picture is from Easter. They drove all the way to Gainesville to take me to brunch. Grandma got a Bloody Mary and was cracking up at how big the pepper was! After brunch we walked around campus a bit and every guy we passed she said “you should date him. He’s good looking” (because I was very single). The day ended with her buying me way too much food for my apartment and trying to give me clothes. She was so funny and deeply cared about her people! She was the best!

Grandma and Grandpa were committed to attending our wedding, even though it wasn’t a convenient location for them. They drove over 30 hours from Florida up to Lake Placid to celebrate with us. It meant the world to have them there with us during our special day. Grandma was always so generous with passing along her possessions as gifts to others - clothes, jewelry, furniture - she was always ready to give something to her family or friends. She really touched my heart when she gave me and Mike her wedding bands for us to have and use during our ceremony. It was a special symbol of love and positive blessings on our marriage. It means the world that she gave them to us. I look back to this picture and feel so fortunate  to have had her with us that weekend, especially in the dressing room. She was making jokes, passing out snacks and being her usual witty, sassy self. She always said something that got the room talking, which I admired and loved about her the most. There are so many little memories about the funny things grandma did or said that I will truly never forget. I don’t think she gave herself enough credit for how fun and entertaining she could be when she turned on the charm. I’m so glad I got to see that side of her during our time together on this earth. I will miss her dearly, but will always think back on our amazing memories together and smile.
