Our beloved Brother and Uncle, John Starita passed peacefully on March 8, 2022. John was born in Brooklyn, NY on July 23, 1940. He was the son of the late Anthony and Rose Starita. He was beloved brother to William Starita, predeceased Rose Starita and Fred Starita. Loving Uncle to Bill Starita and Janice Ferrara (Len Ferrara). Devoted Companion to Dorothy Strynkowski.
Jackie served proudly in the Air Force. He was very patriotic and his home displayed many American flags. Jackie had a lifelong interest in military history and was a prolific reader of books on this subject.
Jackie began working at IBM in the early 60’s based in Manhattan. He had a good knack for electronics after his Father. As a hobby he built his own TV and many computers. He enjoyed working there and made many lasting friendships like with his late friend George. Jackie hosted many fun parties at the IBM Country Club as well at his own home in West Babylon. He declared himself the Chief and put on his headdress. The bocce tournaments were a fun time in his yard. Jackie gave the best prizes!
Jackie was loved by his entire family. He was selfless and kind. Jackie was known as the problem solver of the family. He knew he was needed when someone called and said, “Are you busy?” He helped brother Bill win his Presidential Campaign in High School. He was very quick-witted. He came up with the slogan, “Don’t be a Pill, Vote for Bill!”
Uncle Jackie had a heart of gold. He was very generous and gave to numerous charities such as the American Cancer Society and Veterans’ causes. He ran a set of networked computers out of his home that performed life-saving work on cancer research.
Uncle Jackie also had a soft spot for animals. He had a cat named Fonzie which was fed endless treats and of course had a seat at the dinner table. Uncle Jack gave our dog, Lucky the gift of sight. Lucky was blind and deaf when we adopted him 4 years ago and he generously donated the money for Lucky’s eye surgery. It was amazing to see the transformation Lucky made when he could finally see his new world. We are so appreciative.
There wasn’t a time Uncle Jackie did not show up for us. He traveled to many places to see our graduations, recitals and important life events. He was loyal and there when needed. We are so grateful Uncle Jackie was able to join us in Hilton Head for our wedding last May.
Jackie was a “walking encyclopedia.” He was highly intelligent, loved to read and knew lots of trivia. He was the one to call when we needed to learn something or needed his advice. There’s no doubt he could have won big on Jeopardy.
Anyone who knew Jackie, knew he had the biggest sweet tooth. His home was filled with various candy jars. He loved his snacks. His latest favorite was devil dogs. He sent us 5 boxes because we love them too. We also knew where Jackie would be on a Friday night at 5pm sharp. Nunzios! He knew all the best pizzeria’s in almost every state and country he visited.
Jackie was a world traveler. He shared many travels with Dorothy, George, Fred and other loved ones. He is very thankful to Dorothy and George for taking him to many exotic and exciting places around the globe. He has been to over 50 countries, like Australia, Iceland and Italy. Jackie also loved going to Casinos. He dreamed of winning big one day.
Jackie is reunited with his loved ones that he has not seen in a long time. He has restored health and is smiling down at us all. Jackie was loved dearly and will be missed by family and friends. He will live on in all of our hearts. Jackie gave us lifelong memories that we will always cherish. He lived a full happy life that we are honored to celebrate.
