Resident of Farmingdale, NY
Josephine Marie Halby, 69, passed away on July 22, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Born in Brooklyn, NY, and raised in Babylon, she carried the culture and character of New York with her throughout her life.
Josephine was married to Douglas Halby for nearly 42 years, having wed in August 1983. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and rich experiences. Josephine is survived by Douglas, her devoted husband, and her beloved brothers Joseph (Tina), Jerome (Denise), and Paul (Sally). She is also remembered by her in-laws Karen (Fernando) and Dennis (Virginia), along with many nieces and nephews: Gina, Melissa, Nicholas, Joseph, Daniel, Kristin, Charlotte, Cameron, and Tyler.
She was predeceased by her parents, Giacinto (2024) and Marianna (2025) Gervasi.
Josephine had a diverse and accomplished career. Most recently, she worked as a Purchasing Administrator for Paramount Plus, and previously held positions with Sabena Airlines, Lufthansa, and Sirius Radio. Her professional life mirrored her personal passions—dynamic, worldly, and ever-evolving.
A lifelong lover of the arts, Josephine found great joy in Broadway shows and live music. She recently attended The Outsiders and Stranger Things: The First Shadow, continuing her deep appreciation for performance and storytelling. Her soundtrack included punk and new wave legends like Iggy Pop and David Bowie—artists who, like her, challenged the mainstrem. She also adored vintage cinema, especially the works of Charlie Chaplin and the iconic charm of Betty Boop.
Josephine had an adventurous spirit and a passport full of stamps to prove it. She traveled widely, collecting stories, experiences, and keepsakes that spoke to her bold curiosity and love of culture. She had an effortless cool, the kind that couldn’t be imitated—enigmatic, stylish, and completely her own.
Over the years, she shared her life with many beloved dogs, most recently her cherished companions BB and Q.
Josephine quietly supported causes close to her heart, including many years of participation in the AIDS Walk. In her memory, donations may be made to the Elton John AIDS Foundation.
A memorial service celebrating Josephine’s life will be held on August 2, 2025, from 10 AM to 2 PM.
Josephine will be remembered as sassy, spirited, and unapologetically herself. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all those whose lives were brightened by her light.
