On Saturday, August, 8, 2015 at 12:50 pm, a glorious man, Permell Parker, was welcomed home with the Lord. Permell passed away suddenly at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip, NY . Argie Permell Parker always known as ‘Permell Parker’ was born on January, 26, 1964 in Queens, New York. Permell was the second child of Q. T. and Margie Parker. Permell’s early life was spent in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. As a child, Permell was known as a silly prankster, a ‘Curious George’ who took things apart to see how they worked, ‘Evil Knievel’ on a bike riding down stairs. He was a mischievous boy and a person who was a teller of tall, hilarious stories with a smile that warmed the heart. Permell graduated from John Adams H.S. in 1982 and in an effort to provide a better life for himself, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served from April 5, 1983 and was honorably discharged on October 11,
1985. He achieved the rank of Lance Corporal and was an Expert Marksman. He was awarded the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal, the Navy Unit Commendation, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, the Humanitarian Service Medal and the Rifle Marksmanship Badge. He served with honor in both the Beirut, Lebanon and Granada, South America campaigns. While in the service he was blessed with his first daughter Lakeyia Parker on August 14, 1983. Permell was hired March 29, 1986 by the U. S. Postal Service in Garden City, NY . His postal career meant everything to him and he always expressed that he loved his job and his co-workers. He worked there his entire career that encompassed 29 years leaving a legacy of professionalism and consistency. His mother-in-law Pat, who at that time was also his co-worker, says “He was a great listener, always available and willing to give wise counsel”. When asked what kind of person Permell was as a worker, Edward Tammaro, his Postmaster said “...I was most impressed with his ability to treat people the way they needed to be treated to get the best out of them. A real ‘go to’ guy when the going got tough. Quick to assess a problem and even quicker to solve it. His leadership, loyalty and ability to learn anything accurately and quickly, set him apart. He had a tremendous aptitude for dealing with people. He had an uncanny ability to get through the mask people put up and to see the
essence of a person. He was ‘cool under pressure’ and never lost his way when things got crazy”. While working there he met Patricia Groomes-White his future mother-in-law to be. On December 18, 1987 Permell was fixed up by Pat on an arranged blind date and met who was to become his wife, Tracey. After dancing and much talking he proposed that day! When Tracey asked Permell how was he able to propose like that he said ‘I saw you in my dream when I was 8 and I knew who you were’. One year after a three day, whirlwind engagement in October 1989 to rival any romantic movie you have ever seen that included limos, rose petals on a NY sidewalk, a proposal on bended knee at a restaurant, a surprise party with everyone there from the night they met and a weekend in Gurneys Inn, they were married on October 8, 1990. During their marriage Permell and Tracey had two children; Savannah born June, 14, 1994 and Noah born May 3, 1999. To say this was a real life love affair would not express the length, depth and breath of their love for one another. Theirs was truly a love to last a lifetime. ‘Til death do us part’ was taken seriously by these two. After being together every day from the day they met, they truly were only separated by death. As a God fearing man, Permell’s spiritual journey manifested under the leadership of New Hope Institutional Baptist Churchs’ Reverend John A. Jackson, Reverend Sallie Lloyd, Reverend Vera Alston and Reverend Jermaine Henderson. Permell was baptized in 2012 at New Hope and continued to grow in God. Permell’s spiritual path crossed with his longstanding friend of 27 years and present spiritual leader, Pastor Derek Price of Bethel Christian Church. Pastor Price became Permell’s spiritual beacon and anchor. Permell said ...’When I am in the presence of Pastor Price I feel like I am a better version of myself. I feel like all the things I couldn’t do I can do because of our connection to each other’. He leaves to mourn a loving mother, Margie Parker; loving mother-in-law, Pat; devoted wife, Tracey; beloved children: Lakeyia, Savannah and Noah; siblings: Meryl, Tobias and Deanna Joy; nieces and nephews: Natasha, Alyssa, Zhane, Ariana, Jamel, Alani, Temi, Lindsey, Jalen and Andrew; brothers and sisters-in-law: Adrian, Leke, Keith, Eddie, Derrick, Kim and Donna; Brothers and sisters-in-love: Chris, Michael, JC, Kevin, Dave A. & Dave M., Doreen, Liz, Angie, Kim, Lorraine, and Corliss, nieces in-love: Eden and Shana, life long friend and Lakeyia’s mother, Sonya and a host of friends, church family and co-workers.
