Richard J. Spelman, age 73, of Holbrook, New York, passed away on Tuesday, June 27, 2023. He was born to Melvin and Elsie in NYC on January 23, 1950. Richard was a proud ARMY Veteran. In his lifetime, he was employed by Aurora Industries where he worked in Operations. He was also Vice President of Operations at Pickering. He then went on to work for himself and started Spelman Contracting Inc. Richard enjoyed the theater, live music, playing cards with family & friends, and loved to shop. He loved to travel and St.Maarten was one of his favorite places to visit. Above all, Richard enjoyed being with his family. He was the one who you could call if you needed help. He was always reliable and could fix anything. Richard was one of a kind and will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
Richard is survived by April, his beloved wife of 24 years; his son Justin; and his daughter Bonnie Landkammer; his brother Melvin (Marcia), his brother Randolph (Gigi), his brother Lawrence (Mary Delia) and his sister-in-law June Adocchio; his grandchildren Ashley, John, Jared, Christopher, Adriana, his aunts Doris Adriaenssens, and Emily Skala, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his daughter Dawn Burnell (John) and his son Jason.
A visitation for Richard will be held Sunday, July 2, 2023, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. A prayer service will occur Sunday, July 2, 2023, at 7:30 PM. An interment will occur Monday, July 3, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Long Island National Cemetery, 2040 Wellwood Ave, Farmingdale, New York 11736.
