Richie was my moms first cousin. His wife and my mom were first cousins there moms were sisters. My Grandma and Flo’s mom Great Aunt Mary. My mom has many memories with his wife from the early 60s when she was born. Richie and Flo got married in the early 70s and my mom had many memories with them then as well. We all have many good memories with each other our families were very close. Cousin Richie was a legend. He was a good guy one of the greatest people you can ever meet in your life. He always was there for everyone. This is such a huge loss. He was very proud of his sons my cousins Richie and Larry. His sons turned out just like him. Great People and Great Fathers. I know there dad is in heaven with a lot of our other family members reuniting now. I love you all and I love and miss you already so much Cousin Richie. Cousin Kevin. 

I grew up in Inwood in the 4th Pct in the early 80's. As a teenager I decided I wanted to be a cop. I got to know all the cops in my neighborhood including Richie. He would always talk to me as he drove the car that covered my house car 408. I would actually go by his relieving point when he was working. I had lost touch with him. I became a city cop in 90, then a Nassau cop in 93. By then Richie was a Detective in JAB where our paths crossed again. He was a great guy, cop, and family man from what I remember.  Also dedicated to all his kids that he worked with in the Special Olympics. He was one of the many 4th Pct legends also known as "Jughead" by his peers. He helped give the NCPD the great reputation it has to this day. I retired as a Detective Sergeant last year after a 31 yr career. It was an honor to know you, and wear the same patch Richie! You definitely influenced my life, and how I did the job. Thanks for that! Rest easy Jughead, and Godspeed! Condolences to your family. Sincerly John P. LoPiccolo NCPD (RET).

We are both so sad to hear about Richies passing. Flo and Richie were very good friends while we were living in NY in fact we were all in each other’s wedding party. I believe that both Flo and I fell in love with our husbands at the same time. She met Richie and I met my husband Mike and we often shared our feelings together . Will always remember Flos beautiful smile. Richie was head over heels for her. Richie and Mike both returned from Vietnam and were working at Burts Shoe Store. We had so many fun times together. I know they both had huge hearts and were kind and caring. You must be so proud of how your father touched so many lives.   They both will

Richie,  We loved you so and will miss you forever. You touched so many lives, especially all our handicapped children in your sports program and patients in the  VA Hospital, Northport. You ministered to the sick and provided spiritual comfort to them with your work as a chaplain.  You visited our Anthony at home so often,  showing him love and laughter. With the sound of your motorcycle we knew you were on the block. We praised God in PFI classes and grew close during our time together. We learned to love our dear Lord even more during our Theology weekends at the seminary. We will remember you and hold you in our hearts forever.

We met in 1966 as our fathers worked together. In 1967 we both were into the army.  We started at fort Jackson and went thru basic training and advanced military training there.  We were on our way to Vietnam. But we were chosen for leadership school. When I questioned about the school sgt said it will stall Vietnam for another 8 weeks. For about 24  weeks we worked hard and had fun in South Carolina. Then we finally went to nam. Different world.  We were separated by platoons but still saw each other. It was tough for us as we really missed home. Family was our rock.   I haven’t seen you in many years but my wife and you spoke thru Facebook.  May god bless you in heaven. My sympathies to your family.

Richie always seemed part of our family. We grew up together.  His sister was part of the girls group(there were 6 of us) and Richie and my brothers (and others)were the boys group.  We played on our block separately and together.  No need to go anywhere else.  We had such wonderful times together.  Richie always had a great big smile.        Thank you for being a part of our young lives!!  Betty Pugh

Richie and my brother Tom were best friends growing up in Elmont.  It was like having 2 big brothers. They both took me places and I loved them both. Condolences to the family. I am sure his Legacy will live on through his grandkids.
