Victoire Legrand

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Victoire Legrand, age 97, who left us peacefully on January 31st, 2025. Victoire was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend whose life was marked by love, kindness, and devotion to others.

For 60 years, she was the loving wife of Joseph, her partner and soulmate. Together, they raised a beautiful family that continues to honor her legacy. Victoire was predeceased by her loving husband Joseph, as well as her beloved daughters, Jessy Brutus and Dominique Legrand.

Victoire’s love extended beyond her family, as she had a deep passion for serving others. She worked as a dedicated nurse's aide, showing compassion and care to all those she encountered. She also touched the hearts of countless people through her culinary skills, with meals that nourished not only the body but the soul. Her home was always a place of warmth, love, and laughter.

Known affectionately as “Mommie Toye,” Victoire was a matriarch who built a strong foundation for generations to come. She was one of the founding members of the Hebron French Speaking Seventh-day Adventist Church in 1964 and was also instrumental in the creation of Ephese Church in Amityville, which originated in Huntington. Her commitment to her faith and her community will forever be remembered.

Victoire’s heart of gold and her unwavering strength were evident in everything she did. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love, faith, and compassion, and her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of her survivors. Her Children: Priscille Legrand, Frantz Patrick LeGrand and Mirielle Nelson; Grandchildren: Ariane Brutus, Alexandra Baker, Jessica Brutus, Giovanni Nasson LeGrand, Devon Patrick LeGrand, Gregory Nelson and Farah Nelson; Great-grandchildren: Avery Baker, Aiden Baker, and Andrew Baker Jr; who will miss her terribly and were blessed by her.

Rest in peace, Mommie Toye. Your love and light will never be forgotten.

A viewing for Victoire will be held Monday, February 17, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Ephése French Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 85 Coolidge Ave, Amityville, NY 11701. A religious services will occur Monday, February 17, 2025 from 11:30 AM to 3:00 PM, 85 Coolidge Ave, Amityville, NY 11701. A committal will occur Tuesday, February 18, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Pinelawn Memorial Park and Arboretum, 2030 Wellwood Ave, Farmingdale, NY 11735.
