The way C.J became my brother is one funny story. It started with crushes, I liked him and for some reason beyond me he liked me back, we went out a few times, and then he invited me over to his house, that day I met his younger siblings and the man he called Papa. They embraced me, they made me laugh, feel welcomed, and they all but force-fed me lol. I instantly had a bond with his younger sister Catie, and him being a pre-teen boy, he was trying to show off because I was there and he was rude to her. If I'm not mistaking I told him that day I would rather be friends. In the next few weeks I was hanging out with Catie, even brought her a birthday snack from my mother's change for milk from the Royal Farms. I told my mom about wanting to spend the night and she wanted to meet her father, so he invited us over for dinner. Well, that dinner turned into the rest of our lives. We stayed over that night and never left, This was almost 20 years ago. C.j became my big brother and he didn't take that lightly, he protected me the same way he protected his blood, he always made sure I knew he loved me, and when he brought his girlfriends or friends around he always introduced me as his little sister. We all grew up together, we were close, then we became adults and started living our separate lives, I regret not reaching out more and taking more pictures, but anytime we did see each other it was hugs, I love yous, and laughs. Rest In Paradise Big brother until we meet again.

I'm sorry we lost touch over the years. I remember the first time meeting you. You looked just like Joey hagin. This was a new boy we've never seen boy. You had all the girls wanting to be Mrs. CJ. I remember because I was one of those girls lol. Over the years it was just friendship. High school the time you jumped of the bus when David pulled out the gun. The rec days the skating days. The time you saved my life when I busted my head open at the rec. Freezing on the bus stop. Or showing me a quicker way home from the bus witch wasn't quicker for me. The time we went to camp together with young life. The time you came to my 16th birthday party not because it was cool but because you actually cared and showed when half my friends I invited didnt.. thank you CJ. I am so sorry to hear of your loss and to his family. Yall have have always been my family too. Thank you for sharing Cj with us. I'm so sorry we loss touch over the years. I love yall.. 

I have known CJ since he came home from the hospital,  my mom was famous for her gift baskets and baby blankets she made herself.  Pam and I had known each other since 7th grade. Of course I was there. I remember his tiny fingers wrapping around mine as he fell asleep on my chest. Over the years he would run up with that big smile always making my day. We bounded tightly.  In his teens he would spend weekends with us, doing the mall thing, movies, Penny poker, he was family! When he came back from the Marines he wasn't the same. But his heart was so big and he never ever gave up trying to be a good man. We talked through out the years. Sharing happy thoughts, anger, and tears. But he always picked himself up.  Always fight for the good in people they are in there I told him. Hate the demon aka drugs, not yourself or others. Be strong. We always ended with big hugs and love ❤.  Even on the phone. CJ you are our family too! Till we meet again we love you!

CJ.....I am so saddened to hear of this.  CJ was a bright and funny presence at Learning Inc.

I have known cj since he was a little boy As he grew up we drifted apart as friends we kept in touch but the one thing i remember is how we met my son bubba and i moved up the street from there house on chestnut avenue  one morning i here a little boys voice from my bedroom window saying hi my names cj i live down the street im like ok hello im debbie lets go find ur mommy pam u and his family r in my prayers i cant believe he is gone R I P. CJ

CJ was always so sweet with the biggest heart ♥️ He always kept me company when I lived across the street. We would chain smoke Newport’s on his grandmothers porch and get in deep conversations about life. You will be missed by so many G. Not a goodbye, just a see you later. Rest easy in paradise CJ 🦋

I personally didn't know Charles but can see how many people he touched, how much he was loved and what a great soul he was. I pray for his family and friends to find some comfort. I pray that his story touches people and I pray that anyone struggling realizes how much  he meant to his family and friends and can find the strength to overcome addiction in his honor. I am here for anyone who wants help and look forward to learning about and knowing Charles. May God be with his family and friends. ✌️❤️

I have known CJ for a long time ! He was like family ! He had a huge crush on my sister when he was a kid !! He always made us laugh when we were younger !!! RIP CJ 
My thoughts are with the family!! 

I’ve known CJ for a long time,way back from when we all went to Iguana Cantina. He was always such a nice guy. I haven’t seen him in a while ,but no matter how long it’s been,he still will come up and give you a big hug and ask how everyone is doing. He will definitely be missed. Such a sweet,very respectful  guy and so sad to hear that he’s gone. RIP CJ!

My big brother was the one person I could always run to. He was basically my dad since ours passed away when I was so young. He protected me. He loved me. He made me feel so safe. I will never forget him. I will always tell the stories about our times together. Every laugh. Every tear shed, and even every fight. I love you Ceej. Always will. 


I took care of CJ at Perry point VA Medical Center for substance abuse. I had just seen him recently when he came back and stayed on a different program on 364 B. It was me and another co worker stopped by there to borrow that units van and he happened to be outside smoking a cigarette. We pulled up and I said CJ is that you? He said hey y'all, how y'all doing I miss y'all on 22. He gave us both a hug and asked if he could come by later to 22 and see us. It was nice to see him but I thought he had got his act together. He was always the cool guy. Always working out and trying to make his exterior look good even though he needed more help on the inside. CJ was always nice to me and he always had a smile on his face when I talked to him. I will miss that. My condolences to his family and friends. And I pray for peace and healing durinf this time.
