Born in Freehold, NJ, Chris grew up in Toms River and graduated from Toms River High School East in 1993. He graduated from St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia with a BS in psychology in 1997 and earned his MS in Counseling from Johns Hopkins University in 2009. Chris dedicated his career as a psychotherapist to helping people cope with the hardships of life. In his personal and professional relationships he exemplified the virtues of kindness, courage, and concern, leavened with a wonderful sense of humor that came from his insight into the human condition.
Chris was an avid, though often heartbroken, fan of the NY Jets, had a life-long love of cooking, gardening, art, and music and was a member of several bands with whom he toured throughout the country singing and playing bass guitar. He said that performing provided the highpoints of life, and he was happiest in those moments on stage. He was blessed with a wide circle of bandmates and loyal friends who celebrate his memory even as they mourn his passing.
Chris is survived by his parents, Arlene and Edward Witman of Toms River, NJ, his brother Michael and sister-in-law Carolyn, his cherished nephew Cole and niece Mae; uncles John Rustmann, Robert Rustmann and his wife Aileen Florell, and Richard Rustmann and his wife Denise, aunt and uncle Marcia Corey and Robert Wright, aunt Catherine Chiarelli, and many cousins.
Funeral arrangements were private in the care of Burgee-Henss-Seitz Funeral Home in Baltimore. A memorial Mass celebrating his life will be arranged in the Spring.
