Ed was born on August 10th, 1957 in Baltimore City as the youngest child to the late Edward R. Jeunette, Sr. and Margaret Clark Jeunette , and the step-son of Charlotte Jeunette .
Ed graduated from Mount Saint Joseph High School in 1975 and Towson State University in 1979. He then received a law degree from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 1982. After receiving his Juris Doctorate, Ed proudly took over his father’s civil law practice serving the Hampden community. He enjoyed handling the variety of cases offered by working in private practice in a small community. Continuing his service to his city, he then worked as Legislative Assistant to City Councilwoman Mary Pat Clarke where Ed was able to focus his talents on the diverse needs of the larger community.
In 1990, Ed began a long tenure as an attorney with the Baltimore City Department of Social Services representing the State in cases of child abuse and neglect, and then for the last several years, shifting to adult protective services. As a skilled, efficient and compassionate advocate, Ed strived to protect the most vulnerable populations in Baltimore City. He touched the lives of many children and adults in need. Social workers, attorneys, doctors, and other professionals routinely looked to him for guidance and support in tackling complex and emotional legal cases.
Throughout his life, he was actively involved in civic organizations and city and state political campaigns. He devoted countless hours to local causes including marriage equality, the Hampden Family Center, Baltimore Pride, the Hampden Centennial Committee, and the Mayor’s Christmas Parade where he served as a marshall for many years. He also served as a board member of the Hampden Business Association, and was past Vice President of the Hampden-Woodberry Community Council and Mayfair Planning Committee.
After 24 years with his partner Jeb King, they were married in the ceremonial courtroom of the Mitchell Courthouse in 2013. Ed and Jeb enjoyed dining out, going to the theatre, and traveling within the US and abroad. They particularly enjoyed collecting memories from their travels including original and eclectic art and collectibles. Ed also enjoyed cooking and prided himself on preparing delicious meals, whether to feed a crowd for a special occasion or for an intimate meal over which he and Jeb could discuss the days’ events. Another great attribute of Ed’s was his love of animals. His lifelong devotion to furry creatures began with a monkey and a duck as childhood pets, and led to him and Jeb rescuing many animals along the way.
Ed also thrived on working with his hands and was a talented and entirely self-taught handyman. He loved to fix up old houses, beginning as a young man with his grandmother’s house in Hampden, and moving on to new projects in Ednor Gardens, Elkridge, Roland Park and Mt. Washington. Every house was improved and made into a home into which Ed and Jeb welcomed family and friends with open arms.
A fervent fan of the Baltimore Ravens, he served as Treasurer of Ravens Roost 110 in Hampden. For the past 19 years, he and his best friends traveled to the site of the Super Bowl city where they enjoyed all that those cities could offer by way of festivities. Ed particularly loved regaling friends with highly anticipated stories of each year’s exploits. He was eagerly anticipating a Ravens run to the Super Bowl this season, a trip to Miami, and a return to Baltimore for a celebratory parade.
In all things, Ed’s heart, wit, compassion and competence shone through. He believed in doing things well, and for the right reasons, whether helping a friend or assisting a stranger in need.
Ed is survived by his devoted husband Jeb King and his siblings Michael (Barbara) Jeunette, Sr., Clark (Jan) Jeunette, Pat (Dennis) Dideriksen, Chuck (Cel) Thompson, and Susan (Chris) Kohler. Ed is predeceased by his sister Libby (Don) Rector. Ed is survived by many nieces and nephews as well as countless friends who will miss him dearly.
