Helen Duffield Brinton Lodge (Smokie)
Helen was born Dec 28, 1920 in Vegreville, AB . Helen moved with her family to homestead north of Barrhead in the late 1930's. She joined the RCAF (WO) in December 1941 and was discharged May 1945. After her discharge she joined the RCAF 418 Reserve Squadron in Edmonton and obtained the rank of Corporal. Helen lived most of her life in Edmonton , but in the early 1980's she decided to build a home on the family homestead at Camp Creek. She lived there until the early 2000's when she moved into an apartment in Barrhead. In 2009 she moved to Red Deer and eventually to Masterpiece Aspen Ridge.
In younger years Helen was an avid cross-country skier, she also loved to square-dance and kept active throughout her life with gardening. While in Barrhead she enjoyed singing as member of the St. Versatiles Choir. Art was another passion, she became a prolific artist and a member of the Barrhead Art Club. Our Smokie enjoyed travel and was game for adventure she always kept a youthful attitude making her seem so much younger than her years. We miss her dearly.
