

Ken was born on May 1, 1951, in Lamont, Alberta and spent most of his adult life in Barrhead. He was well known for his love of agriculture and plant cultivation. Ken worked as a research scientist and was very proud of the recognition he received for his contributions to research and development in Alberta’s pulse industry. Beyond his research, Ken had a deep passion for connecting with farmers in the community, sharing knowledge, listening, and building meaningful relationships rooted in mutual respect and a shared love of farming the land. He authored and assisted in the development of many articles and papers related to pulse crop production.
In his younger years Ken was an avid hunter and an enthusiastic fisherman his entire life. He shared many fishing trips with family and friends throughout Alberta, British Columbia, Yukon and Alaska, creating many special memories. He will be remembered for the many steak and salmon barbecues shared with family and friends, He was an active volunteer with Ducks Unlimited and member of the Orchid Society of Alberta. Ken was known for his love of orchids and peonies and took great joy in teaching others how to grow orchids.
Ken is lovingly remembered by his soulmate and partner, Vivian; his children Margaret (Brad), Barbara (Wayne), Robert (Sierra); and his grandchildren Ethan, James, Genevieve and Theodore. Ken was extremely proud of his children, their spouses and his grandchildren. All of whom were very near and dear to his heart. He will be deeply missed as Papa and Dad.
Ken was predeceased by his parents, Olga and Joseph; his in-laws, Glenn and Dorothy; and his sister Evelyn.
A memorial service will be held in the spring, when the grass is growing and the birds have returned.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ken’s memory to the charity of one’s choice.
