

Alvin Young Simpson, 72, died at home on December 27, 2016 after a long battle with liver disease and cancer. He is preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Roxie Simpson and his sister, Ann Dees. He is survived by his high school sweetheart, Dollie Simpson, whom he was married to for 51 years, his children Tim (Meredith) Simpson and Tiffany (Jason) McKeown and eight granddaughters, Lily, Allie, Hailey and Molly Simpson and Adelaide, Lucy, Julianne and Maebry McKeown. Two brothers, Captain James (Marilyn) Simpson and Neil (Marcie) Simpson and many nieces and nephews. Alvin, Dollie and their children and grandchildren are members of the Germantown Church of Christ.
Alvin was employed at Sears for 25 years and was self employed as a songwriter/recorder. He was a talented musician, entertaining on numerous television shows, and with ensembles including the Jackson Symphony and was awarded Songwriter of the Year in 1978 and was featured for his songwriting career in both the Wall Street Journal and on CNN’s Across America with Larry Woods. Alvin was the song leader and Bible class teacher at the Coleman Avenue Church of Christ and Macon Road Church of Christ. He was loved by many and brought joy to everyone he met. He made countless balloons for children at his church, in restaurants, at St Jude, and just walking through his everyday life. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to be sent to the Transplant Foundation at P.O. Box 42048 Memphis, TN 38174. Services will be held at Germantown Church of Christ on Saturday, December 31, with visitation from 9-11 and memorial service at 11:00.
