He was born on September 16, 1941 in Columbia, South Carolina to
the late Calvin Addison Green, Jr. and Annie Laurie Hutchison Green.
He graduated from Dreher High School in 1959 and joined the Navy
where he served as a Hurricane Hunter in Puerto Rico. In 1964, he
began his career with the FAA in Miami, later transferring to Nashville,
and ultimately settling in Memphis in 1968 as an Air Traffic Controller.
He retired as ATC Supervisor at Memphis Tower in 2002.
Mr. Green was a faithful and active member of Temple Baptist Church
in Olive Branch, Mississippi. He enjoyed Memphis Tigers sports and
spending time with his family and friends. He had a deep love for
gospel music and spent many years singing in a quartet, sharing his
faith and joy through song. He was a gifted handyman who loved to
take on projects for anyone who needed it, always finding joy in
fixing, building, and learning new skills.
Mr. Green is preceded in death by his brother William D. Greene
(Jean) of Little Mountain, South Carolina. He is survived by his wife of
63 years, Sylvia Williams Green; sons, Steven Craig (Kathy) Green of
Olive Branch, Mississippi, and David Scott (Libby) Green of
Collierville, Tennessee; brothers, Richard T. (Debbie) Boswell of
Brookhaven, Georgia and Robert L. (Cele) Boswell of Eutawville,
South Carolina; grandchildren Morgan Green, Savannah Green,
Addison Green, Brantley (Jane Bradford) Green, Bailey (Brian)
Cannon, Brayden (Kelsey) Green, and Bryson Green.
The family will receive friends for a time of visitation at Memphis
Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens on Monday, June 2, 2025 from
6pm-8pm. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at
10am at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens. Burial will
follow at Big Creek Cemetery in Millington, Tennessee.
