Jerry (Chief) was one of my first managers, but he was so much more than that to me.  As a young professional,  he had a profound impact that carried on throughout my work and personal life.  Those who did not know him were often intimidated.  However, to those who knew him well, he was a teddy bear.  He was fiercely protective of his team. He embodied how leadership began with the genuine caring for someone as well as their family.  As a young professional, Jerry gave me the encouragement to learn and grow.  I am forever grateful for my time with him.  To Jerry’s family, I feel like I know so many of you as he spoke of you so often.   My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Outside of my mom and dad, Chief was probably the most influential person in my life.  My first encounter with him at Reese was not under the best circumstances but he took me under his wing and taught me how to be a leader.  He was firm without a doubt and was always fair.  He took pride in his troops and would do just about anything for them.  In 1990 I was offered a position at Walgreens but I had just reenlisted for 6 years.  He was able to have that undone so I could pursue a different path.  I was fortunate to be able to repay him with a position after he retired and remember him always saying “Walgreens has been very very good to me”.  We had many laughs and many cries over the years but what I learned was his tough as nails exterior could not hide a heart that was as big as they come.

Dear Heavenly Father, I pray that Chiefs family find strength, courage and peace during this difficult time.  I ask that the mourning be soon replaced with the remembrance of your everlasting goodness and love.  I pray that Chief Rest in Peace in anticipation of being reunited with his family in heaven.  I pray this in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.  Amen
