Born February 8, 1931, Died May 18, 2024
“Dave” was born in Evansville, Indiana, the youngest of 8 children of Herschel and Mary Condit.
He was preceded in death by two sons, David Jr. and Michael, grandson Matthew Adamson, and great-grandson Noah Rhea. He is survived by his wife Edie Condit, daughters Vickie Bermensolo, Pam Rhea, and Jackie Thomas, 6 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Dave served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War from 1948 - 1951. He supported his family as a master sheet metal worker/welder, but his true passion was ministry. He was ordained by the Hollywood Baptist Church in 1960 and pastored 5 churches over the years. From 1991 until Covid (2020), he dedicated his life to Prison Ministries within Shelby County and the City of Memphis. He wrote a faith based “Preparing for Release” Program that is used by the state to help the incarcerated learn critical skills for assimilating back into society. Known as “Brother Dave”, he has taught and influenced the lives of hundreds.
Even after he was no longer able to physically minister to others, he occupied his mind with reading and listening to God’s word. His books and bibles are painstakingly highlighted in multi-colors, each representing a new insight during a different reading and different stage of life … a reminder that God’s Word, while unchanging, is a “living” word that evolves with our level of understanding and life experience.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 from 1 pm until service time at 2 pm at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Rd, Bartlett, Tennessee 38133. Burial will be private.
