

Donald Francis Garvey, 67, of Arlington, died August 18, 2010 of a blood disorder. He is survived by his wife Linda, daughters Stacey Richards (Phillip) of Lakeland, TN and Amy Chandler (Jason) of Memphis, TN. He leaves behind six grandchildren. He also is survived by his brothers Bob Garvey (Marlene) of Arvada, CO and John Garvey (Sharon) of Van Meter, IA. He was born Feb. 1, 1943 in Ames, IA and graduated from Northwest Missouri State University in 1967 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting. He served in the United States Army in Bamberg, Germany from 1968-1970. He worked for 38 years as Budget Manager for the Agricultural Chemical Division of the W. R. Grace Company. He was a twenty-one year cancer survivor and he courageously fought that disease and it's related illnesses over the years with strength and never a complaint. During his retirement, he devoted his time to volunteering at the West Clinic with the Wings Foundation. He also worked at the Model RR & Hobby Shop and enjoyed collecting and building train sets. He was also a member of the Cotton Patch RV Club and was fond of traveling in his RV with family and friends. The family requests that any memorials be sent to the Wings Foundation at the West Clinic, 100 N Humphreys Blvd, Memphis, TN 38120 in gratitude for the doctors and their staff who lovingly cared for him over the years. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 20 from 5-7 p.m. at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Garden, 3700 N. Germantown Rd. Funeral will be held on August 21 at 10 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 8151 Chimneyrock Blvd., Cordova, TN 38016.
