Doris W. Berry, 93, of Eads, TN, went home to the Lord on Friday January 31, 2014. Doris was born December 13, 1920, in Mize, Mississippi to Marion and Lillian Buckley. She was reared in Magee, Mississippi and received her RN degree from Mississippi State Charity Hospital in 1941. In 1943 she married O.E. Berry Jr. of the Mt. Zion community of Simpson County. Upon Mr. Berry’s death in 1953, she moved with her three children to Jackson, Mississippi where she worked as a Registered Nurse. She spent the greater part of her nursing career, prior to her retirement, working as Dr. William H. Buck’s nurse in his private practice. Many who grew up in South Jackson were patients of Dr. Buck and became very fond of Ms. Berry because of her caring nature. While living in Jackson she was a member of Parkway Baptist Church. In 1983, she retired and finally moved to the Memphis area to be near two of her children. In 2006, she joined Leawood East Baptist Church in Cordova, Tennessee. Even though her health was on the decline at that time and she could not attend as often as she had wanted, she felt she had found a very special church home in Leawood East. She is predeceased by her parents, her husband, her sisters: Alyce Noullet and Betty Gillum and two of her children, Lynda Berry Ditto and Paul Berry. She is survived by her son Omer Evon Berry (wife-Priscilla) of Eads, Tennessee and her grandchildren Michael Berry (Niki), Matthew Berry (Laura, Andrew Ditto (Jenifer), Lilly Ditto Laferny (Jason) and Noel Berry and ten great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held Sunday, February 2, 2014 from 1-2pm at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Rd. Bartlett, TN. A graveside service will follow at 3pm at Memorial Park Southwoods Cemetery in Memphis, TN. Memorials may be made To Leawood East Baptist Church.
