

Gary Albert Cansler, age 81, entered heaven June 08, 2024, following a lengthy illness. He will have a private family only graveside service at Memphis Funeral Home in Bartlett Thursday, June 13, at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Pastor Andy Savage of Grace Valley Church will be officiating.
Born in Paducah, Kentucky on October 5, 1942, the son of the late Albert Lee Cansler and Cecile Lavern Hayes Cansler, he grew up in Jackson, TN. After graduating from Northside High School where he had the honor of becoming an Eagle Scout, he entered the Army and then completed an Apprenticeship Program in Memphis as a member of IBEW#64. He retired from Shelby County Schools as a Master Electrician in 2008.
In 1965, he married his wife of 59 years, Carolyn Cheek Cansler, who survives. They were 17-year members of Faith Baptist Church in Bartlett where he served as a Deacon. When he became unable to walk, he attended Grace Valley Church where they had a wheel chair ministry and thus was able to attend church. Gary and his wife enjoyed a life full of travel throughout the United States and multiple European countries. Their favorite trip was to Israel with Faith Baptist Church and Pastor Danny Sinquefield.
Survivors other than his wife include his daughter, Lauren Cansler of Lakeland TN , Mark Albert Cansler (Lynn) of Comorant, MS, six grandchildren, Katrina Hill (Nicolas), Lindsey Morrison (David), Camille Bennett (Allen), David Cansler and Andrew Cansler. He is also survived by one sister, Linda Cansler Weaver (Charlie) and a niece, Patti Collins.
