George Dockins Sydnor

George Dockins Sydnor, 87, of Lakeland, TN, passed away on Tuesday, October 13, 2015. He was a US Navy veteran, retired from Hartford and Maryland Casualty Insurance Co. after 33 years of service, and was an avid sports fan especially when the Kentucky Wildcat basketball team was playing. He was a founding member of the Brownsville Road Church of Christ and the Oliver Creek Church of Christ and was bestowed with the honor of being named a “Kentucky Colonel”. Mr. Sydnor was the husband of Bobbie Jean Sydnor for 66 years and is also survived by a daughter, Jean (Mike) Call of Lakeland, TN; two sons, George (Becky) Sydnor of Greeneville, TN and Arthur (Susan) Sydnor of Memphis; six grandchildren, Beth, Ashlee, Lauren, Katie, Jake and Luke; one great granddaughter, Mattie. He was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Kelley; a brother, Wallace “Buck” Sydnor and two grandsons, Matt and Nick. A Memorial Service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 17 at the Oliver Creek Church of Christ. Family and friends will visit at 1:30 p.m. and will continue after the service until 4 p.m. Inurnment will be at a later date in Maple Grove Cemetery in Russellville, KY. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial gifts be made to either the Oliver Creek Church of Christ or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
