Gerald was a longtime resident of Ellendale, Tennessee, where he was well known in the community as the owner of Ellendale Lawn Service. He took great pride in his work, especially repairing and working on lawn mowers, a skill he was known for and enjoyed throughout his life.
In addition to his parents, Gerald was preceded in death by his brother, Benny Matthews; his sisters, Elsie Corlew and Joy Palmer; and his son, Timothy Matthews.
He will be lovingly remembered by his sons, Jerry Matthews, Stephen Matthews, and Danny Matthews; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens located at 3700 North Germantown Parkway, Bartlett, TN 38133.
