Gertrude Burnette Thompson, 101, of Bartlett, TN passed away on Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at the home of her son in Cordova, TN. Mrs. Thompson was born on August 31, 1919, in Rogers Springs, TN. She moved in 1938 at age 18 with her family to Memphis, TN from the family farm. She met her husband at the American Finishing Company, and they were married February 14,1948. Mrs. Thompson lived in East Memphis for 45 years and was an active member at Berclair Baptist Church and joined Faith Baptist Church when she moved to Bartlett. Mrs. Thompson was a great cook and she loved to cook especially for Sunday lunch after church with her whole family. During retirement, Mrs. Thompson learned to quilt and loved to quilt for others. She made over 181+ quilts for her family and friends. Mrs. Thompson will be forever remembered for her servant heart as she had a genuinely kind and loving spirit and by those who loved her most as the best mother, grandmother, and friend. She was a retiree of both the American Finishing Company and Richards Medical Company now known as Smith+Nephew. Mrs. Thompson leaves two sons, Dr. Charles Thompson (Belinda Thompson) of Cordova, TN, and Tommy Thompson (Kendrick Thompson) of Fisherville, TN; two daughters, Charlotte Martin (Troy Martin) and Martha Cunningham (Jim Cunningham III) of Bartlett, TN. She is survived by nine grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren; Michelle McCollum (Kevin) - Nathan, Andrew, Daniel; Mollie Peery (Clint) - Jonathan and Brooklyn; Meredith Thompson- Millie Thompson; Staci Hissong (James) -A.J. and Makenna; Troy A. Martin (Amy)- Charli Martin and Logan Jackson; Kristie Bowen (Scott) - Preston and Piper; Casey Cunningham – Caylee and Ceighan; Sumner Thompson; Lizzie Thompson. She is also survived by her brother, Jewell “Joe” Burnette of Bartlett, TN and several other family and friends. Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Ladell Thompson, her parents Ruby Fortune Burnette and John Ross Burnette plus her older brother, Alfred Burnette who died in WWII. Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 7 from 6:00-7:30 pm. at Faith Baptist Church, 3755 N. Germantown Rd., Bartlett, TN. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 8, 1 pm at Faith Baptist Church. Interment will be at West Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery, Saulsbury, TN at 3:30 pm. Memorials may be made in her memory to Faith Baptist Church, 3755 N Germantown Rd., Bartlett, TN 38133.
