Mr. Russell was born April 15, 1932 in Arlington, TN to Willie and Ruth Russell. He was preceded in death by his brother Granville, and sisters Mary Moore, Sarah Fowler, Catherine Richardson, Mildred Cross, and Helen Bishop.
He is survived by his wife Betty of 69 years and his sons Ronald (Jean) and Darold (Margaret) and two grandchildren Austin Russell (Rebecca) and Rachel Russell.
He graduated from Nicholas Blackwell (Bartlett) High School in 1950. After high school, he served in the Army during the Korean War. He was married to the love of his life 1955. He was a longtime member of Saint Stephens Methodist Church where he served as president of the Disciples Class. Most recently he was a member of the Hampton Methodist Church, Millington. He started out after his military service as a plumber apprentice and lastly, he worked at Grace Chemical for many years. He enjoyed his gardening and animals that came with country living as well as fishing and rabbit hunting with his family and friends. He enjoyed watching sports, but especially enjoyed coaching youth baseball. As the family patriarch he was a loving father and concerned grandfather of who he saw or spoke with daily.
The family will receive friends at visitation on Friday, February 7 from 9:00 AM until the funeral service at 10:00 AM, at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, Bartlett, TN. Graveside with military honors will immediately follow.
