

Phyllis Jean Rhodes, treasured by all as Jean, passed peacefully on February 24, 2024, encircled by the love of her family. Born in the musical city of Memphis, Tennessee, Jean poured her energy and passion into a fulfilling career with Bell Systems.
Jean's life was rich with love and service, residing in Heber Springs, Arkansas, for 17 years before spending her last six years in Wynne, Arkansas. She stood as a pillar of strength and love as a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Jean’s marriage in 1998, to Charles Knox Rhodes made the local news as they were married at Memphis In May. The celebration of her union with her husband also marked the beginning of many years of joy judging BBQ contests together, a shared pastime they both cherished deeply. Her compassion knew no limits, extending her kindness to animals by volunteering at the Heber Springs Humane Society during her retirement.
Jean's unwavering support for her son, David West, was profound and constant. She was his greatest fan, always there to cheer him on, celebrate his successes, and provide a loving embrace in challenging times. Her encouragement and belief in him were boundless, and the special bond they shared was a testament to her role as a dedicated mother.
Preceded in death by her parents and sister, Jean's memory is lovingly honored by her husband of 24 years, her children, her eight grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren. Her spirit will continue to inspire and guide her family, including her cherished son David, his wife Jennifer, and their children, as they carry forward her legacy of love and compassion.
Jean's enduring love story with her husband, Charles Knox Rhodes, was a testament to their shared values and devotion. Their partnership was a melody of shared joy and commitment that resonated throughout their lives together. In remembering Jean, we celebrate a life beautifully lived, a story woven with love, laughter, and selfless service.
Jean's family will honor her in a celebration of life at 2 PM on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at Memphis Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Rd. Bartlett, Tennessee 38133. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens.
The family suggest that in place of flowers, contributions be made to the Heber Springs Humane Society, a cause dear to Jean's heart and reflective of her giving nature.
