
John Edward Dolan, Jr., of Bartlett, Tennessee, died Friday morning, February 13, 2026, in Bartlett. He was the loving son of the late Jane Cavan (nee Litcheck) and John Edward Dolan, Sr. He was born October 19, 1954, in Trenton, New Jersey. John spent his middle and high school years in suburban Chicago, graduating from Deerfield High School. He graduated from the Terry College of Business at the University of Georgia, Athens, Georgia, in 1976.
He obtained his first pilot’s license in Athens and subsequently enjoyed a long career as a mechanic working for Federal Express in Memphis, Tennessee. After starting his career in 1986, he rose to the position of Senior Aircraft Maintenance Technician prior to his retirement in 2016 after 30 years of faithful service. He achieved numerous federal certifications in connection with his work.
John was a faithful Georgia Bulldog football fan and followed the Chicago Bears, even attending a game at Soldier Field in Chicago. Additionally, he was a fan of auto racing and attended the time trials of the Indianapolis 500 while still in high school with his father and friends. Later, while living in the Atlanta area, he attended races at the Atlanta Speedway. His aptitude for mechanics extended to his hobby of working on cars, with the Pontiac Fiero being his favored car.
Mr. Dolan was a faithful Catholic all his life and was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Memphis, Tennessee.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Edith Marie Dolan, Esq. (1956-1988).
Mr. Dolan is survived by his daughter, Leah Dolan Edwards (Joel) of Monroe, Georgia; his son, John “Johnny” E. Dolan, III, of Manhattan, Kansas; sister, Jane A. Dolan of Savannah, Georgia; nieces Emily J. Hart of Savannah, Georgia, and Katharyn E. Hart-Brandi, DVM, (Joao) of Sacramento, California; nephew C. William “Bill” Hart, III, Esq. (Irene) of Reno, Nevada; and 11 grandchildren and a grand-niece and 2 grand-nephews. The family would also like to acknowledge John’s close friend of many years, Sam Wilson of Memphis, Tennessee, who assisted John in his final years.
A viewing and liturgical prayer service will be held Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at Toppitzer Funeral Home, 2900 State Road, Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania 19026. Interment will follow at Arlington Cemetery, Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania 19026.
