July 28, 1935 – April 23, 2025
John Henry Johnson III, 89, of Memphis, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2025. Born on July 28, 1935, in Memphis to the late John Johnson II and Eva Lorene Johnson, John lived a life rooted in faith, service, and devotion to his family.
A proud veteran, John served honorably in the United States Marine Corps from 1954 to 1958 as a member of the 2nd Battalion, 6th Marines. After his military service, he dedicated 33 years to the Kellogg Company as a machine operator, where he was known for his reliability, strong work ethic, and sense of humor.
John was a longtime member of Bellevue Baptist Church, where his faith guided and strengthened him throughout his life. He found joy in the simple pleasures—spending days on the golf course, casting a line while fishing, or relaxing with a good book in hand.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Marie Johnson, who passed in 2021, his parents, and his sister, Gloria Johnson.
John is lovingly remembered by his brother, Gordon Johnson; his daughter, Debbie Spangle (Billy); his sons, Johnny Johnson (Sheila) and Kevin Johnson (Vicki); his grandchildren, Rachel Johnson, Meghan Johnson, and Michael Johnson (Mallory); and his great-grandchildren, Rivers and Annie.
John leaves behind a legacy of strength, love, and kindness. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to the charity of the donor’s choice.
