Hospital. Mr. Underwood was born October 12, 1933 in Leachville, Arkansas to the late Bernie
and Ruth Underwood. After dropping out of school after the 8th grade to help support his
family, Mr. Underwood went on to join the US Navy during the Korean War and eventually
earned an Associate’s degree from Arkansas State University and a Bachelor’s degree from
Memphis State University. Mr. Underwood was a long time employee of Holiday Inns (Holiday
Corp) and traveled the world for for his job for many years. Before retirement, Mr. Underwood
went to work for the State of Tennessee as a Tax Auditor.
Mr. Underwood married the late Mary Ann Edwards on November 27, 1952 in Manila, Arkansas.
They were married for 63 years and had five children, Joe Underwood(deceased), David
(Kathie) Underwood of Bartlett, TN, Mark (Gloria) Underwood of Clarksville, TN, Suzanne
(Gene) Butler of Arlington, TN and Scott (Belinda) Underwood of Paris, TN. In addition to his
parents, Mr. Underwood was predeceased by his wife Mary Ann, his son Joe, two brothers (Billy
and Bryce) and two sisters (Bonnie and Sally). Mr. Underwood is survived by 4 children, 13
grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, and one sister, Gene Key of
Holland, MI.
A former Deacon at Hickory Hills Baptist Church, Mr. Underwood loved to fish and play cards.
A Memorial Service for the interment of Mr. and Mrs. Underwood’s ashes will be planned for a
later date. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s
Association.
