He was married to the love of his life for 36 years Lynn Story. He leaves behind three wonderful children; Jeannie Benson of Frisco, TX, Cheri Phelps of Bartlett, TN and Ran Story of Bartlett, TN. One brother, Kim Story of Memphis, TN. Also left with sweet memories are his two grandchildren, Christian Vandergift of Arlington, TX and Taylor Phelps of Bartlett, TN.
He was predeceased by his parents Gene and Joan Story, one half-brother Allen Story.
He attended Humes High school and graduated from Northside High. After graduation he went to proudly serve in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. After his service he worked at the Memphis/Shelby County Juvenile Court for 10 years. He began his career with Bartlett Police Department June 1987 where he proudly served his community in many ways for 25 years until his retirement June 2012.
Mark and his family were members and he served on the security detail of Ellendale Baptist church for many years until 2022 when he moved to Forney, TX where he began attending First Baptist Church Forney.
Mark was a very loving husband and father. He was devoted to his family and loved to be there to attend any event that his children and grandchildren were participating in. He was a father figure/mentor to many children in his community including his time as a resource officer at Bartlett High school.
The family requests donations to be made to St. Jude, Ellendale Baptist Church, or the charity of the donors choice.
He will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved him.
A visitation for Mark will be held Tuesday, October 29, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 North Germantown Parkway, Bartlett, TN 38133. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, October 30, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 3700 North Germantown Parkway, Bartlett, TN 38133. A graveside service will occur Wednesday, October 30, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Memphis Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens, 3700 N Germantown Pkwy, Bartlett, TN 38133.
