Mark Thornton passed away Saturday, December 3rd at 59 years old from complications associated with type 1 Diabetes. Machinist, outdoorsman, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend are just some of the names that he held in life. He had many medical setbacks in life, but none of those kept him from doing the things he loved, or had him complaining about it. Mark took what life gave him in stride and enjoyed the gifts of a life well lived. He considered every single day a blessing from God and was thankful for it.
Mark was a well-accomplished and well-loved machinist involved in research and development at his lifelong employer Smith & Nephew. However, he was an even better family man raising two beautiful and smart daughters (Jennifer and Brittany) and taking care of his queen (Chrissy). Mark enjoyed the simple things in life like coffee on the porch of his home “aka the cabin” with his dog (Millie), taking Levi (Grandson) deer hunting, and fishing with his buddies. Mark was the youngest of 6 boys, Graduated from Sheffield High school and literally married the girl next door. Mark never met a stranger and was always willing to help, allowing him to foster a tight-knit community of friends and family. His smile and signature humor will be remembered forever. He truly was and will be remembered as “One of a kind.”
Mark is preceded in death by his Loving Parents Hubert Sr. and Sybil Thornton, and brothers Hubert Thornton Jr. and Billy Thornton. Mark is survived by his wife of 35 years Christine Thornton, daughters Jennifer (Logan) McCulley, Brittany (Andy) Rodgers, and one Grandson Levi Helms. He is also Survived by his brothers Samual (Victoria) Thornton, Randy (Sharon) Thornton and Steven (Elaina) Thornton. He had also been blessed with many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. The family rests assured knowing that in our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ that this is not goodbye, just see you later.
