Marvin Cato (92) of Germantown, TN was peacefully called home on June 6, 2024, while surrounded by his loving family. He leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion and service that will be forever cherished by those who knew him.
Born on October 13, 1931, in Gravel Hill, AR to Bedford and Blan Cato. Marvin was a man of many passions and pursuits. In his youth, he found joy in the outdoors, spending time hunting and fishing with family as well as singing on the local Christian radio station in Little Rock, AR. His love for sports was evident at a young age as he loved playing basketball through high school and as an adult was an avid football fan for the Arkansas Razorbacks.
On November 16, 1950, Marvin married his childhood sweetheart, Lavern McCall Cato, with whom he shared 72 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a successful business, pouring their hearts and souls into every endeavor. Their partnership was not only a testament to their love but also to their unwavering commitment to each other’s aspirations.
Beyond business, Marvin and Lavern shared a passion for square dancing, a hobby that brought them immense joy for over 20 years.
A devout man of faith, Marvin lived his life guided by the principles of love, compassion, and servant leadership. His unwavering devotion to the Lord was evident in every aspect of his life, inspiring all who knew him to live with kindness and integrity.
Marvin’s greatest legacy lies in the love, wisdom and support he shared with his family. He was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather whose greatest joy came from spending time with his loved ones.
Marvin is preceded in death by his parents and loving wife. He is survived by his son, Charles (Bonnie) Cato, daughter, Sharon Cato Lucius, granddaughters Marcia (Matt) Barnette and Michelle Riddell, grandson, Joey (Artemis) DiPaola, great-grandsons, Caden and Jack Barnette and great-granddaughters, Morgan Riddell and Anna-Belle Soltana.
A gathering of family and friends for Marvin will be held Wednesday, June 12, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 North Germantown Parkway, Bartlett, TN 38133, a funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM, committal service will be in Memorial Gardens following the service.
