Mary Smith Brunson – age 97 of Memphis, Tennessee, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 30, 2022. Mrs. Brunson was born to David Jackson and Lela Vivian Smith in Tallahatchie County, Mississippi. Mrs. Brunson is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie and Kathy Brunson of Lenoir City and Dennis and Jan Brunson of Millington; grandson Matthew Brunson and wife, Krystal, of Ashland City; great grandchildren, Evan Brunson of Millington and Kai Brunson of Ashland City; and sister, Elizabeth Nichols of Doddsville, Mississippi. Mrs. Brunson was preceded in death by her husband of 75 years, Ray Brunson, a grandson, Joseph Brunson, and eleven brothers and sisters. For many years, Mrs. Brunson was an active member of Bartlett Baptist Church in Bartlett where she taught Sunday school, attended and led Bible studies, and hosted prayer groups in her home. Mrs. Brunson was an RN and worked for many years at Baptist Memorial Hospital after beginning her career at St. Joseph’s Hospital caring for newborns, particularly premature infants. After retirement, she and Ray enjoyed traveling, were active on a bowling league, and met friends for a game of cards or bingo. But most of all, Mrs. Brunson loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren, lavishing them with much love and care. Mrs. Brunson lived a long, full life and is now resting in the arms of her Lord and Savior. The family will receive friends at 1:00 pm on Friday, August 5, at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Parkway, Bartlett, Tennessee. Funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm with graveside service and reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude.
