She is preceded in death by her husband, James Sherwood Smith, her grandson, Jeremy Wayne Maxwell, her 5 brothers, Houston Taylor, J.R. Taylor, Coleman Taylor, Homer Taylor, and Gwin Taylor, and her 2 sisters, Juanita Taylor Jones and Mildred Taylor Bermudez.
She leaves behind 2 daughters, Sharon Enright, and Barbara (Bobbie) Maxwell, one son, James (Jamie) Smith Jr., 2 grandsons, Joshua Maxwell (Carrie Dunn Maxwell) and Jeffery Maxwell (Rachel Daniel Maxwell), daughter in law Sarah Colvin Maxwell (Jeremy Maxwell); 4 great granddaughters, Alyssa Maxwell, Alexia Maxwell, Ruby Claire Maxwell, and Charity Maxwell(who shares Mary’s birthday!) and one great grandson, Jackson Maxwell.
Mary was a member of Bartlett Baptist Church. She was a retired telephone operator and supervisor at AT&T and the former Bell South company. Mary loved her family dearly, loved all children (she was a preschool Sunday school teacher for many years at First Baptist Church in Grenada, MS) and especially doted on her grandsons and great grandchildren. She loved to travel and was especially delighted during the last year of her life to be able to visit Hawaii “one more time” and see her youngest of her great granddaughters meet all the Disney Princesses at Disney World!
Mary was a follower of our Savior, Jesus Christ, and longed to be in her heavenly home but we will dearly miss our mother, grandmother, Memamma, and friend!
