Randy was born on October 10, 1941, in Sheffield, Alabama, to Clarence and Gladys Downey, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his son, Robert Garrett, and his sister, Gloria Gheri.
Randy was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He shared 39 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Margie, building a life centered on love, laughter, and unwavering support. He was a proud father to Randy Jr., Rick, and Robert, and was a loving grandfather to Rylee, Cody, and Nikki, who brought him tremendous joy.
Randy spent his career helping others through his work at International Harvester and FedEx, where he was known for his strong work ethic, reliability, and genuine care for people. He had a natural way of connecting with others and leaving a lasting impression.
He was an avid golfer and found great happiness in places like Gatlinburg, Branson, the Biltmore, and anywhere with a beautiful golf course. He appreciated life’s simple pleasures and carried an easygoing spirit that made people feel comfortable around him. He was known for his favorite saying, “rf’in,” his way of reminding everyone to keep rolling with the flow no matter what life brought.
Above all, Randy loved his family deeply. His kindness, gentle soul, and warm smile will be remembered by all who knew him. The love he gave so freely will continue to live on through his family and the many lives he touched.
We’ll keep rolling with the flow, just like you taught us.
