Richard Arlen VanEaton Sr., born in Memphis, Tennessee, on June 13, 1941, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, in his hometown on October 17, 2024, at the age of 83. A man of deep faith, Richard lived a life defined by humility, service, and love. He dedicated himself to his family and his faith, serving as a deacon for decades at the Raleigh Church of Christ, where he touched many lives through his kindness, gentle spirit, and servant-hearted nature.
Richard worked tirelessly for 30 years at DuPont, but his greatest pride was his family. He fiercely loved and supported them, always putting their needs first. His faith in God was the foundation of his life, and he was known for being a hard-working, humble man who lived with grace and dedication. He loved the outdoors and fishing, spending many years in Colorado and Arkansas before returning to the Memphis area. Richard was also a passionate sports fan, faithfully cheering on the Memphis Tigers and the St. Louis Cardinals.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hobart Mack and Annie Lou VanEaton, and his siblings: sisters Mary Price, Martha Hatfield, Janie Craig, and Johnnie Davies, and brother J.M. VanEaton. As the youngest of six children, Richard carried their legacy forward with pride and love.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Sandra, and their children: sons Richie (Lynette), Robbie (Susan), and daughter Wendy (Mike). Richard was the proud grandfather of twelve grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense joy. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who cherished him deeply.
Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at Bartlett Woods Church of Christ. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., followed by a celebration of Richard’s life at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Memphis Memory Gardens, 6444 Raleigh Lagrange Rd, Memphis, TN. His life was a testament to his unwavering faith, love for his family, and commitment to serving others. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
