Robert Thomas Baldridge, Jr. (Bobby), 66, of Lakeland, TN, went to see Jesus on August 21, 2018, while surrounded peacefully by his family. In the midst of each challenge he faced, he would constantly say "I am so grateful, I am so blessed" and he truly meant every word. Bobby sacrificially and unconditionally served and loved others more than himself.
He is survived by his dearly beloved wife of 44 years, Karen Kathleen Parrish Baldridge (Kathie), their three sons Robert Thomas Baldridge, III (Nicole); Adam Stephen Baldridge, Sr. (Julie); and Justin David Baldridge (Brittany); their ten grandchildren Isabel, Iris, Luke, Grayson, Cade, Adam Stephen, Sloan, Parks, Ruby, and Malea; his sister Debbe Baldridge Hamilton (John); his father-in-law and mother-in-law J. Gilbert Parrish and wife Jannis; his sister-in-law Marsha Hove (Bart); his brothers-in-law Gil Parrish (Robin), Randy Parrish (Lynn), Mike Parrish (Becky), and Lee Adcox; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Robert Thomas Baldridge, Sr. and Anne Ferguson Baldridge, and sister-in-law Debbie Parrish Adcox.
Bobby was born in Memphis, TN, and graduated from Bartlett High School. He attended Memphis State University, where he earned a degree in business. While at Memphis State University, he married the love of his life, Kathie. He truly showed how a man loves his wife as Christ loves the church. Bobby's friendly and unselfish personality and reputation for unwavering integrity contributed to his success as a nationally recognized salesman for Shaw Materials Handling Systems. He is known for how well he took care of others, whether they be family, friends, fellow church members, widows, co-workers, customers, or a recent acquaintance. Bobby's servant's heart was unselfishly and generously poured out each day to Kathie, his three boys, his grandkids, and everyone with whom Bobby came into contact. He was willing to help with any project no matter the size or difficulty, and he accomplished each task with perfection. His boys loved calling on him for his help. When anyone called, Bobby came, regardless of the day, the hour, or the challenge involved. When not helping his boys, Bobby loved being "Grandbobby" to his grandchildren and making it a priority to attend and support their many activities. He felt especially blessed when he spent time at the lake with family and friends.
Bobby also poured his humble heart of service into his church Waypoint Baptist Church (formerly Broadmoor Baptist Church), which he faithfully attended and served for over 50 years. He felt most fulfilled when he could serve others. It never mattered if it was serving on a clean-up crew or numerous committees at church. Countless people have been touched and blessed by his service as he demonstrated each day how Jesus calls His people to serve and love others. His mission was serving others; mission accomplished.
Bobby's commitment to Christ was not only spoken but also demonstrated by his walk and interactions with his family and others. While Bobby would never willingly accept praise for the way he lived his life, we have no doubt his sweet ears have received the utmost praise from our Lord and Savior: "Well done, my good and faithful servant." We love him so much and will miss him very deeply but know we will be with him again in God’s time.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. on August 23, 2018, at Ellendale Baptist Church. Funeral service will be on August 24, 2018, at 2pm at Ellendale Baptist Church, with a graveside service to follow at Memphis Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Waypoint Baptist Church or the American Cancer Society.
